    Howdy ya'll,

My aluminum alloy stock rims are starting to chip paint and have some corrosion. Nothing too major but i want to take care of it soon before it gets any worse. Thinking of just using black plastidip. I've used it in the past and was happy with the results for being so cheap. I just want to protect them from the nasty WI winters.

My question is... Would it be better to use a primer before applying the plastidip on the rims? Only thing im concerned about is in 3 years when the plastidip needs to be reapplied, if i take off the plastidip with brakeleen(usually what is recommended) am i also going to strip off the primer? Right now im just thinking of using plastidip without a primer, but if anyone has experience with this, your two cents would be appreciated!

    thanks in advance!

    Another Badger Stater here,

I’ve not done it myself but looked at several videos on it and all just cleaned the wheels very well and applied the stuff. Several coats to make future removal easier.
Also WD-40 will remove any residual matter in the bolt holes and such.

I've seen several youtube videos too and haven't seen many that used primer before too. The paint sales guy at menards recommended the primer but i don't think ill go with it
