    Hello!
Just totaled my 2006 sport manual crew cab taco I found on here in 2011 from a guy in Charlottesville Va. It had a salvaged title with 42,000 miles on it and I paid $15 for her. Never had no issues but had only 92k on her when I totaled it. Insurance gave me $17,500 for it so I made money! Now looking for a replacement 3rd gen even though I’m a little skeptical about all the new technology and 3.5 liter.

Welcome back, $15 for a 2011 Taco is crazy! Thats like the price of a Starbucks drink. :p

I love my 3rd Gen but I know others dont, and thats fine. But I would suggest an extensive test drive with an open mind. Try out the ECT button as well. The truck will also learn your driving habits as you drive more as well so the test drive will only tell you so much.

Alot of haters but mostly love for the 3rd Gens. You cant please everyone. But definitely do the research before spending the bucks!

    Good luck!

Sorry, don't know much about the manual other than people with it love it. The automatics have a gear hunting transmission that you either hate or accept.

No need for ECT on the manuals, ECT is for the automatics and makes the shift points more spread out. With the manual trans you control your own shift points.

Okay cool! I test drove a manual last week only think I noticed from my 2006 was the profile of the shifter was more bulky but couldn’t really notice any power loss from the 3.5

Skeptical is good. Always, about most anything. And for sure when you are gonna drop a stack of Benjamin's on it.

All I can say from looking around here is do a lot of test driving. And even on the specific unit you might think you want to buy.

Lots of folks love theirs, lots of folks come here whining about things they should have known from test drives.

Do majority recommend getting something with a warranty still or attempt to extend a warranty?

Just like any vehicle, a warranty is good to have. But I wouldn't spend thousands to extend one.

If you buy a vehicle still in original warranty, my understanding is you can buy a Toyota warranty extension. Just be careful how you do that. You can buy them from any Toyota location, and prices can vary wildly.

If you buy a CPO vehicle out of original warranty, you should be provided a 12/12 warranty (not bumper to bumper, but better than driveline), along with a 7/100 drive line. The 7 is from the date YOU purchase it, but the 100 is the TOTAL odo reading. So if you get a 40k vehicle, you get 60k of driveline. If you want to up that warranty, you have to make that choice at the time of purchase. Toyota will no longer sell you an extended warranty after the purchase is concluded. (I just went through these pushups in the last month is the only reason I know)

If you buy a non CPO vehicle out of warranty, all you'll get is what a dealer *may* offer.

Of course I'm speaking of Toyota warranties, not aftermarket. You can buy almost anything aftermarket. But be very very very careful. Lots of fine print, lots of excluding conditions, and the Toyota dealer is not required to honor it.

Keep in mind your best buy on a used vehicle may not be at a Toyota dealer. So then everything I just said may not matter.

I'm not much of a warranty worrier, out of 50-ish vehicles I'm on only the 5th that has some warranty. The only warranty work I ever have had done was on a Ford AC system, under extended warranty, and I'm glad I had it. But that was in the early 90's.

Extended warranties are usually overpriced and not worth it, but if you do get one make sure it's through Toyota and not a 3rd party extended warranty. Those are rip offs and rarely come through for you if/when you need them. Speaking from experience...
