Would like to utilize my Android Tablet as a map via Gaia GPS.

Anyone have their tablet mounted in a way that's not exactly permanent, and actually stable?

My google-fu only showed me 2nd/3rd gen options and the only 1st gen options I saw were of 2 different members, one of which didn't have a stable setup.

I dunno, even the really expensive Ram mounts aren't exactly "stable" for the tablets. There's only so much you can do with something that doesn't require a bunch of modifications to the dash (drilling holes, fabricating mounts, etc). Any type of flexible arm fixture will bounce around.

Part of the reason I eventually decided to just stick with my phone. I'm also a cheap/lazy bastard and didn't want to spend a bunch of money and/or time getting a tablet to work for my specifications.

There simply isn't a lot of room on/near the dash to put a tablet that isn't covering up something else like radio or a/c controls, or obstructing your view.

I just have a simple modified "universal" mount that I bolted to the empty switch location on the dash. Fits a phone perfectly, is in easy eyesight, and doesn't obstruct the windshield at all.

I recently mounted a 10.5 inch ipad on my Motorcycle and
used it for 2.5 weeks on the road to New Mexico and Colorado.
I plotted out all kinds of backroads and obscure routes and
never got lost. There's a simple 1 inch ram mount on the
motorcycle and a x-armor waterproof mounting case on
the ipad. I haven't figured out how to mount it in the truck
yet though... I use the app "maps.me" and downloaded
openstreetmap.org data and the whole thing works
    great and off-line...

I may have to buy a different tablet to find a suitable case/mount to attach to my tablet.

I just recently got the Gaia GPS app and I'm really liking it so far! I'm used to the old school way with topo maps and a handheld GPS; it's what I used in the military while on patrols in Iraq and it's the same GPS my dad used on his patrols when he was deployed to Kuwait, etc.

Having a tablet with maps saved is like first class for me! I'm a minimalist :anonymous:
