Vacuum pump noise

    Blacked out most of the chrome
    Hi my tacoma started making a noise at idle that sounded like a diesel i took it to the dealer and they said it was the vacuum pump. Has anyone replaced one of so how hard is it and were I'd it located

    I'm going to assume you are talking about the secondary air pump and that you have an automatic transmission.
    I think it's under the washer fluid reservoir and yours would be the first I've heard of on a 3rd gen.

    Vacuum assist vacuum pump for brakes is mounted to the rear of the rt. bank cylinder head. Appears to be a tight fit between pump and firewall.

    When i took it in the service manager said it was the vacuum pump but he didn't tell me what one or the location. I didn't press to hard since i just came in and they weren't charging me any fees at the time

    V6 auto 117k miles. 2wd
    Truck runs smooth no vibrations, brakes work great just that sound when it's not under power

    Actually the secondary air pump is pretty easy to replace. My question is that the pump seems to be an interchangeable part from Lexus, Sequoia and 4Runner. Can it be used on a 08 Tacoma?

    I'm not sure but i replaced it wasn't that bad but that wasn't the problem it's the vvt gears on the cams that are bad

    How did you determine the VVT gears are bad? Did the same dealer tell you this?
