I just bought an 18 TRD Off-Road and have been thinking about lifting it 2 inches all around. I keep seeing everyone talk about the Toyota Safety Sense causing an issue and what not. But I think there should be no issue, and no need to recalibrate unless you lift it greater than 6 inches. This is just my opinion and if someone thinks differently or knows I made a mistake let me know.

Here is how I understand how the system works:
The sensor emits a group of waves forward at a bunch of angles and a specific frequency .
There is a specific height range that computer looks at to see if the waves "hit" anything. This is likely 6"-42" off the ground. The reason it is a range is because not all vehicles have bumpers at same height.
I assume that if you lift your vehicle, or level it, all your going to do is move your range accordingly. The one caveat here with leveling it is that there may be a greater change to said range because of the take angle.
Here is my "drawing" of how I think the system works
I would like to know what other people think about this. Also if anyone has had issues switching their 2018 grilles to TRD Pro grilles, because if they don't have issues that validates my point I believe.

I just add the TRD pro lift to my 18 1.75" in front, and added 2" in back to keep rake. No problem at all, everything works as it did before lift.

One other thing, if you did have a problem. If you switched to pro grille, the TSS is lower in that grille (bottom of grille), compared to stock grille (center of grille). So it would correct problem.

My plan, perhaps misguided, is to raise the front of the truck the same height the sensor loses by changing to the Pro grille... Not sure if that makes any sense. I just need source the Pro grille to see how far the sensor drops.

There is also a camera on the front windshield for the TSS system. I personally think lowering the the radar sensor in the grille to the lower location in the trd pro grille location will cause more of an issue then lifting the vehicle a few inches and maintaining the current distance/ angles between sensors. The camera and radar are calibrated together and in the calibration process in TIS it asks what location the radar sensor is located in the grille. Is it enough to cause an issue? probably not. From reports of people switching to trd grilles and lifting their trucks not many people have had issues.

Very good point! I totally forgot about the camera. From what I read so far on the forum, dealerships have been unwilling to do any calibration work on lifted or new grille trucks. My 2018 has the differential whine just above 50mph. The TSB doesn’t cover 2018, but if it is covered later on, I will try to get them to throw on some pro suspension and calibrate it at the same time. That’s just wishful thinking for now. Still learning lots, I am sure my plan will change 100 times by then. Thanks for the info.

Anybody running a tube like bumper? I was thinking of getting the Victory 4x4 off road Strike with the hoop.

Do you think I will run into issues? I have the 2019 TRD PRO with the Sensor in the lower part of the grill.
