I personally have always used Castrol edge high mileage full synthetic 5w30. Is it better or worse? I have no idea. I can say I’ve never had any issues in 4 years/130,000m. the truck is now at 230,000m. bought at 99,500m

I am following what we do in Corvette world where the new recommendation went from 5W-30 to 0W-40... except lately I have been using Valvoline MST 5W-40 synth in my 4.0 in the warm seasons since it has been so hot, hot, hot. I know, Toyotas are not Corvettes but the 0W will make starting in winter a tiny bit easier. And as the miles build a little heavier on the hot end doesn't hurt. MPGs seem about the same as running the standard 5W-30. YMMV.

What the previous owner used before shouldn't deter you on what you want to use. The high mileage oil does seem like what you'll want if you're loosing oil between changes. Funny thing about burning or leaking oil. My wife's Mazda CX-5 doesn't leak but uses oil and has since she bought it new. (I hate that car) As for cost, depending on your driving you could push the change intervals to 7,500 or more if it's highway miles. Also, watch for sales at Walmart. I picked up 4-5 qt jugs of 5-30 for a just under $23 each and got a $48 rebate from Mobil. Then last week my son sent me a link where Walmart had Mobil 1 on sale for just under $20 for a 5 qt jug. I told him to buy 2 of 15-50 (synthetic) for one of my motorcycles and 2 of the 0-20 fuel saving synthetic for my wife's car. I also sent him info on how to get the rebate that Mobil was still offering. So here comes another $48 rebate.

    Hope this helped.

Same here or Mobil 1 if it’s more convenient at the time.

Yes! I checked the Mobil 1 website over the weekend. They are doing a rebate now actually. $17 back on a 5 quart jug and Extended filter. Great deal!
I paid $22.99 for the oil and $9.99 for the filter at Walmart and will be getting half back!

My old man was a distributor of Whippet Oil back in the day. No better oil anywhere, period. I still got a basement full of about 300 quarts and I don't use anything but. All my vehicles last 100K easy using this lube.

That oil is about as old as this thread. Sorry, I could not resist.
Also 100k miles is not that much, we're talking about modern Toyotas here :D
