Never knew smog was so in-depth. I figured they just tested everything at idle. You’d think something that old would be exempt from smog, but at the same time smog is aimed to get old vehicles off the road. I’m not sure how it all works. Hopefully they just don’t expect that van to be able to produce the same results that a brand new Corolla will give.

I'm fairly positive that newer vehicles have much stricter smog testing standards than older ones do...I mean they can't hold your 1987 Toyota Van to the same emissions standards as say a 2012 Honda Accord. The technology just didn't exist back then.

I imagine they have different specs that your van has to meet than the specs they use for a newer vehicle. Also, not every vehicle has CA emissions equipment or at least didn't use to...so if a non CA equipped van comes into the station they can't impose CA equipped rules on it. They have to measure it against the working equipment it was originally designed with.

I bought an original owner 1984 Toyota van several years back. Only 16k miles. It was beautiful Then my girlfriend at the time crashed it. After that, I got rid of both of them.

Good look with your restoration. These vans are awesome. Don't let any schmuck tell you otherwise.
