Archive Thank you!!! I have been in contact with ARB. They want me to remove my leaf pack and measure it to see how worn out it is. They seem to think that is the issue of why my shackle hangers look like the one pictured above. I am very curious as to what their reply will be. I can second or third or fourth the loud pop sound after having some flex going on. It’s happened to me a handful of times. I’m going to have to throw in a hacksaw next time I go out so I don’t end up in a pickle like Alex_Busta. Glad I know what the pop is because the first time it happened I was certain I broke something.

Here in the next couple weeks I will finally get around to installing my hangers and shackles. At that time I will measure the camber of the leafs. I am hoping that they measure within limits because that’ll tell them that it’s the design and not worn leafs. I’m doubtful it’s worn leafs. They only have maybe 15k miles on them(2yrs old). The progression that they took with me was that the leafs must be worn. I sent numerous pictures of the leafs and the arch. My leafs have some negative arch to them. I was later told this is normal and that’s when my case went cold without me removing the leafs. Here is a few cleaner pics of damage.

It is annoying they are denying that, because the shackle damage is clearly due to spring design. Negative arch can be normal depending upon actual load weight

So I was looking into getting a set of your hammer hangers....but I'm currently running the dakars on my truck. What would your advice be in this situation? Seems like some slight negativity brewing about them.

What do you use the truck for?
Do you have plans for bigger/different modifications?
Are you happy with the Dakars?
What are your expectations with the hangers?

Hammer hangers and Dakar is a killer combo, especially with b110 shocks or similar long shocks (for stock shocks anyway). Ask @EatSleepTacos , he ran HH sand b110 shocks and Dakar pack and got KILLER flex. I’m personally not that bothered about chopping a couple inches off a Lear spring. Especially when it’s a good leaf pack and only costs about $500. If you’re bothered about chopping the tip off a leaf spring but you’re getting enough flex to have this issue you probably aren’t too bothered about chopping and cutting things on your truck... I would think.

He actually lives around the corner from me now. I'm having him help me out with some welding in a week or two so I'll make sure to talk to him a little more regarding these then. I don't have any issues chopping/cutting haha I was just unaware of the issue until reading about it on this thread. Thanks for the response!

Currently it's my DD. Not really hauling anything and wheeling isn't super accessible in southeast VA. It's a little bit of a drive to get anywhere so while I have done some, it's not an every weekend thing. I'm currently flip/flopping on switching over to LT....regardless of if I go that route or not, I was told that the HH would make the back end ride much smoother and be more compliant so anything that would improve ride quality for me seems like a no-brainer. I don't have any complaints with my dakars either, they helped accomplish what i was looking for when I first lifted the truck.

Yup. It's an improvement for sure! Consider the cross bar. I don't have it (probably soon) nothing but positive feedback there. LT... ah yes, Tacoma nirvana. SOA and HH would be ideal. So getting HH now...you're partway to LT for a minimal cost, huge improvement over stock. I think you know where this is going... welcome to the club!

Meet Ernesto the drill bit. Ernesto helped me install hangers on my Tacoma over 2 years ago, and has been used nearly every week in the shop since, yes 2 hole (punny) years.
For $12, less than a Dewalt throw away bit, you get a 1/4" and 1/2" bit added to your kit. I offer these to save you aggravation, time, a trip to store and money.
I recently drilled holes out in a stainless header flange for a friend and 4 new holes in my Tundra frame, and Ernesto is finally tired.

I saw another thread where people were making outrageous claims about needing many drill bits for installing hangers

@ARCHIVE What do you recommend for a (Gen 2) Tacoma currently running Fox 2.0 Performance Series Reservoir 2-3" - 985-24-117 (Extended 23.80 in. Collapsed 14.70 in.; Stroke 9.10 in). I have Dakkar Medium Load (0lbs to GVW) Spring rate: 149 / 482, 2.75" lift - EL095R currently installed but I am moving to Deaver Expedition Series (Stage III) spring next week. Also mounting up a rear high-clearance bumper with dual swingout, bed rack and RTT.

Ever get it sharpened? Fastenal will sharpen bits for cheap, and holy fuck, does a sharp bit make a difference.

if it's used, they lose their temper and won't hold an edge and you'll be sharpening often. I've spent way too much time sharpening shot bits when a new one is cheaper.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ All I know is at the shop, fastenal sharpens the bits every so often and they work amazing.

Never sharpened it, and didn't use oil for drilling

That is impressive. Any particular reason why you didn't use oil? Regardless of the bit I've used, oil made a significant difference.
