The first thing I noticed driving my truck off a lot was the poor pedal response. I hate having to put my foot halfway into the throttle to get the vehicle to move with this new 3.5 liter v6 and an automatic. I had since added a Shiftsense Pro to help with the awful shifting from the 6-speed automatic but still was dealing with the poor pedal response. I have since addressed it with the Pedal Chip X. It works similar to a Pedal Commander but with fewer control options so it's much more user-friendly. I have a very light foot and have it set at its strongest level. It's still very easy to control the throttle off the line but now requires very little imput to get going. I would highly advise any Gen 3 owner to add this option to their truck. I purchased mine on eBay new for $180. I believe I've seen it since on Amazon and eBay for slightly more at $200. Probably the best hundred and $180 I've spent on the truck.

I tried ETC a few times when I first got the truck and it was a weird behavior. After a while ETC was a heaven send. I just need to get ovtune and quick messin around

ETC just seems to hold the revs. I've added a Shiftsense Pro to fix the six-speed automatic. But I don't feel any added benefit of ETC for throttle response. The Pedal Chip X addresses the poor throttle response but has nothing to do with the timing of the shift points in the automatic transmission.

I seem to get better pedal response, but glad it works for you!

Per Toyota, ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) can be used when pulling a trailer, carrying a heavy load, or when traveling over hilly areas of land like in the mountains. What that actually means is that it raises slightly the shift points of the transmission so that the engine will rev to a slightly higher RPM before shifting to the next gear. This ensures that when under stress the truck will not lug as the next gear engages. .... I'm referring to the actual throttle response. In other words, my throttle is currently set so when I'm a quarter into the pedal I'm at full throttle as if my foot was to the floor.

I know exactly what you're talking about. ECT has trans and throttle maps.

Good to know. The ECT button still wasn't responsive enough for me. The combination of the Shift Sense Pro and Pedal Chip X really addressed the driving response to my preference. If your good on the ECT alone than your probably aware of the ECT mod. For those that aren't, you can mod that switch to keep ECT on without having to push the button every time you start the vehicle. ..... And for those getting a 2020, supposably Toyota has made further improvements to both throttle response at the pedal and the shift points on the automatic transmission.

I had a Pedal Commander on my Colorado, so I know that this type of product does help with throttle response when you're
dealing with really bad OEM transmission programming, but I disagree with this statement on their website:

"This performance increase cannot be achieved by typical aftermarket chip tuning as a re-map, ECU flash or box tuning as there are no maps to play with for this kind of achievement in the ECU."

The OV tune for the Tacoma definitely fixes the poor throttle response, so saying a tune can't help is not true.

I used a similar product from Hikeit for my Wrangler, loved it. The Jeep had such a sluggish pedal response, this really woke it up. I keep thinking of doing it to the Taco, but ECT has worked well for me and I find that the sluggish response is only in certain situations.

Those unexpected certain situations always seem to come at the worst time for me on my 17. Usually when the vehicle was in too high of gear as you're slowing down entering a four-way intersection turning left with oncoming traffic and you proceed to complete the turn and the vehicle doesn't move like you want it to. Those situations were startling. For me these were necessary upgrades and a cheap fix for under $400 to get both products.

That's actually pretty close a description when mine did it too. But I've only had mine for 3 weeks so I won't say I won't be annoyed by it eventually. Mostly I get hesitation on the highway, have to over pedal it to get it going fast enough. Pedal adapter should resolve all of that

I haven't driven it much without the Shift Sense Pro activated. The shiftsense pro will definitely have you in the proper gearing so you won't have the hesitation and downshift. I had purchased the shiftsense pro before the pedal chip X however to do over again I would start with the pedal chip X and see if that faster throttle response would help manipulate a faster downshift when you're in those certain driving situations when you need your vehicle to respond.
