So I didn't see a ton of winches at C&C but those of you who have them, is any of you using shittybuilt's or warn?

There's a 12k synthetic sb that looks like a good deal on Amazon, thinking about getting it

 

I was at CnC Austin and I have a Warn M8000S

 

I have the smittybilt it does the job used it several times without issue or complaints. Once it goes belly up getting a warn.

 

That's why I said "A ton" lol.

That's the one everyone swears by. You use it a lot? That planetary + syntethic requires a ton of maintenance doesn't it?

Nah every couple months I unwind it and spool it back up to keep the innards greased. That’s what it recommend in the instructions is all I do.

 

Dope. Gotta figure out this whole thing. The dude with the tan Tacoma had a sweet battery setup I want to replicate, then prolly move my air to the engine bay instead of the bed and hook up that winch.

 

12,000 pound winches usually have a different bolt pattern and are significantly bigger than a 10k winch. 10k is usually more than enough even if you have all the crawling gear and overland gear on top. A good rule is a winch should be rated for 1.5x the weight of your rig. The winch you have is always better than the one you don’t, seen warn and smittybilt both fail. I’m looking at engo, great quality and decent price.

 

Nah. I've recovered one truck with it in the few last month's @05prerun82 hahahaha, but I pulled it out in preparation of self recovering during Jambo. Since then I've unspooled and washed it once, but it really didn't need it, i was bored.

In Costa Rica (where I grew up/learned how to drive/wheel) normally trucks have a front and rear winch but conditions are different and trucks are somewhat heavier. I sure AF never asked what anyone was using lol.

Superwinch makes a good product too, they pulled jeeps from north Canada to South America in the ‘70’s.

 

I don't think a Tacoma needs a winch bigger than 10K wouldn't that be Overkill
