Cold start issue

New engine gremlins. New engine runs like a singer sewing machine once you get it started and warms up 30secs or so but is hell to get started after cool down. Starts right up if engine is warm.

 

Did you put in a diesel?

 

I think I've read that can be a symptom of leaky injectors.

 

Sounds like leaky injectors, have them rebuilt. Also can you smell a very rich gas smell at tailpipe at startup?

 

I thought leaky injectors was the opposite? Easy to start when cold because the leaky fuel has evaporated, but hard to start when warm 'cause the leaky fuel is still around

you are correct.

The thinking was that hot injectors would leak a bit, then quit. Fuel would eventually evaporate.
However, if the injectors perpetually leak, it would make it start too rich the longer it sits.

 

Oh for some reason I was thinking opposite lol that if engine still warm it hasn't leaked enough fuel to cause the condition, but it makes sense it could evaporate after time too. You're prolly righter, if it can be both

 

It is random. Sometimes it will not restart right after you kill it. Other times will not start after it has set a while. Lots of times starts with no issue. Changed out injectors with a used set I had in old engine and still doing the samething. i can smell the fuel. Going to spend sometime and figure out which cylinder it is....maybe more than one who knows.

 

smelling fuel is an indicator that something is wrong. Perhaps a leaky FPR?
