How important is gas tank armor? I currently have armor for the IFS, transmission and lower control arms. Probably going to add transfer case.

But how important is the gas tank? Seems pretty tucked away to me but wanted to hear if anyone has taken hits in that area..

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
My 1st Gen with steel tank armor (used to be OEM stock with the OR’s) took a hit- jerks drilled a hole in the tank just above the plate to steal gasoline.

I was appalled that ours have plastic plates now and so I replaced it with steel. Just this week I had a scare with it too, was on a remote and rather rough rocky road in Eastern Oregon and made a pit stop, only to hear liquid pouring from under my tank! Crawled underneath swearing why didn’t my armor work expecting to smell gas, but it was cold water pouring out of the front hole in the bed! Phew, we were OK! It was the cooler plug that came off!

Anyways, I think having a steel plate on the tank was a good idea for Toyota back with my 1st gen, along with it’s steel tank. But now, plastic on plastic? No thanks!

By the way, do you have a rerouted pipe? The transfer case armor is good too- I hit mine this week too but Mobtown makes some tough armor!

And as for the LCA armor, what did you go with and has it helped?
