What's the worst decision you've made with your Tacoma?

Kicking off on a Friday to remind us that we all make mistakes, for better or worse, especially when it comes to our vehicles. Though, mistakes can make for some good stories!

This could be a modification you've done, purchase you didn't need, or something you thought you could do in your Tacoma... and probably shouldn't have.

For me, it was the latter - decided to check on my folks' home while they were away this past winter. About 15 inches of snow on a relatively steep driveway with (unknown to me) several inches of solid ice beneath all the snow. What could go wrong?

Ended up losing total control at the top, slid sideways onto some rocks, and finally came to rest up against a tree (no damage whatsoever, sheer dumb luck). It was a long night of digging, thawing, and using a Come Along to get out.




Lessons were learned!

I admit, that's a tough one to beat!

 

Getting a Pre Runner instead of a 4x4. Had a pretty pathetic stuck already. My previous Subaru made it through the area.

 

They really need to make 4x4 mandatory for the OR

 

Yeah I made sure to get that decal in the photo for that reason

 

Letting Mrs Gunns drive it once... Now she finds any excuse she can to "need" it and stick me with her Pilot.

 

Having to park my 2WD Frontier on the side of a dirt road (after getting stuck twice) and move all my gear into my friend's 4Runner was the final straw. Traded her in on the Taco/4WD within a few months.

 

At least you have good taste with the color choice - so you have that going for you.

I thought TRD Off Road meant 4x4?

 

Had a jumping tree take out a snorky, mirror, dent fender, and pillar.

 

What was the price difference between the pre runner and the 4x4? I also agree that they need to make 4x4 mandatory for the OR. Why would you call it OR at that point?

How does one go off road without 4x4? It should TRD On Road..

 

No clue. There's a bunch of people in denial on the forum saying the rear locker is as good as an unlocked 4x4. But it's not true.

 

Off-road trim level has locker and some other carry-overs.

 

no, it still has a rear locker, but not 4x4. Which is weird to me. I'm not sure what situations would require 2wd locker, but not 4x4.

 

My first Tacoma was a PreRunner too. Traded that bad boy in 4 months later for a 4x4.

The only worst decision I made was accidentally draining the tranny fluid instead of oil. Lessons were learned.

 

Well, technically, you're engaging the rear locker because the front wheels CAN'T get you out, right?
