1996 trailer wiring

Hey all, i tried searching all over, but couldn't really find what i was looking for.

So here goes..

I have a 96 taco, 2.4l 2wd, auto.
I am going to take it down to FL this weekend.
I get the task of helping my sis move back up here to MI.
so, the plan is when i get down there to get a uhaul trailer er sumthin, and load all her stuffs up and drive it back up here.

I have added the 2" ball to the rear bumper, but now i have to add the trailer wiring.
Now I'm sure you all are gunna say go get 1 of them kits for this truck., and yes normally i would, but $ is gunna be REAL TIGHT on this trip, and from what i've found, them kits are $40.
and i don't think i can do that now. (as it is, I've already had to do a oil change, and 4 new shocks for this trip) not to mention the gas I'm gunna need, etc...

So, i need to know how i can wire in the 4 pin connector directly into the truck wiring myself? is it even possible?
What concerns me, is that this truck has separate turn signal lights from the brake lights. which is going to cause a problem with direct connections.
I'm thinkin maybe a few diodes in the right spot might fix that. but i'm not sure, that's why I'm askin here!

If there's just no possible way to do this manually, I'll just have to cough up the xtra $ and get the kit... but at this point any $ i can save helps alot.

welp, i didnt expect many responses to this... maybe at least sumthin like
" are you that cheap, just go buy the dam kit and do it right!"

..

so, i'm taking the advice i never got, and just got a kit..
i'm about to install it here this evening or tomorrow.
i'll report back on how it went...

Too late now I know, but you can get univeral kits that you still splice in to your existing wiring.

You have to have a converter to change the seperate signals into combined brake and turn lights. They are relatively cheap compared to buying one with the direct plug in connectors.

The last option would be to just buy a four flat trailer plug and splice it to the brake lights. Then at least you'd have brake and tail indication on the trailer, just no signals.
