Toyota X-Runner rear brace

    My quest to tame the frame wiggle on my 2019 Tacoma has finally started. Many years ago, roughly 12, I purchased this factory Toyota X-Runner Package rear frame brace to install on my father's 2006 Tacoma. He was unhappy with the ride quality, and much of the cacophony could be traced to the open channel frame dancing around. Looking at the X-Runner, it was obvious Toyota knew of the issue, and needed to help control it on their lowered machine. Unfortunately, it was quickly found that it would not fit well with the stock spare tire in place. So the X brace was thrown up stairs in the barn, back burnered, forgotten, until today.

    With the spare tire removed, it fit easily up into place. The two mounting points at the rear of the frame rails are there, bolts and all. The mounting points at the shackle hangers are not. A quick trip the old bolts and washers bin netted some super sleek and precision spacers that would temporarily do the trick. The drain holes in shackle hangers provide a place to bolt the front mounting points.

    With the brace installed, frame shake after encountering bumps is substantially reduced. The chassis still shakes, just not as much, and gathers itself up in less time. Turn in is noticeably tighter. I'm surprised the various braces offered over the years were not more popular. Now to move on to a more permanent mount for the shackle points.

    The brace is 51207-04010 IMO a bit pricey these days.
    The shackle mounts are 51268-04030 and 51267-04020. They would need to be welded on.
    Bolts 90119-A0195

    IF you have a welder and the ability to fab, then it is a bit pricey....if not, it's not a terrible deal for the benefits.

    So you have to give up your spare tire for that? I have no desire to have my spare in the bed, the bed is small enough and I don't need the spare baking in the sun.

    Good idea.

    Given where it attaches, it shouldn't affect offroad articulation. Maybe a scosche of clearence?

    I wonder if some of the upgraded shackles would get the spare back in place?

    I have felt that jittering on road. There isn't much room around here to get moving fast enough offroad.

    Building a brace to clear and retain the spare would not be difficult. This factory brace was built to clear the smaller diameter spare tire on the X-Runner.

    Old post, but anywho...

    The OP's spare must've been a pretty large tire. Looks to me like X-Runner's kept their spare:

    Those shackle mounts are welded on? I have a 2013 regular cab and would love to firm-up the bed. Back of my truck sounds like a bucket of loose bolts every time I hit a bump.

    The X Runner tire is small at 27" in diameter, whereas the TRD off-road trucks are 31 - 32". Some finagling might get things to squeeze with the larger size...

    Yes, the mounts are welded to the shackle hangers.
