The Sport and OR have the same ground clearance and tire diameter i.e. stance. Different shocks though.

Better shocks and the OR sits an inch higher.

If trading 28-30K if its a 4x4 if its 2wd 25-28K....Trading most of the extra stuff you listed will not add a whole lot to the blue/black book price. Also subjective to where you live as well. Private party is another story

Drive both the Sport and the Off-Road and see what you like best.
Last car was a GTI and I didn't like the mushy OR suspension and the way it wallowed like a hippo in corners.

My wife has a 2015 Off Road. I have a 2018 Sport. I honestly cannot feel the difference in their "road manners". About the hood scoop....Tacomas that have the hood scoop (Sport and Pro) do not have the problem with the hood adhesive breaking down which allows the hood to vibrate. The Sport should be OK for towing your "old beetle".

Problem with hood adhesive? Is it a warranty issue on these newer trucks?

Drive both sport and OR to see what is right for you. For what your towing, either will be fine. Some of the dumb asses here will say only an F350 quad dully would work. Tacoma ties just fine for its payload. Historically you only save a few k by going with last years model, just depends what your budget is.

My wife has a 2016 RAV4 limited with the power seat and it’s a really comfortable car. We take it on 8 hour road trips and it’s perfect, thus my interest in the power seat but this is after reading all this stuff online and YouTube videos about how uncomfortable the Tacoma seats are. I’ve only sat in the sport model at the dealer, haven’t driven one yet. But I liked the leather seats and sunroof.

We also read all kinds of bad stuff about the RAV4 seats being uncomfortable and it being underpowered with a clunky transmission but when we drove it we loved it. It’s got all the power it needs and the seats are great. So I’m betting the Tacoma will be the same.

I should add I’m 5’9” and 165lbs so I’m pretty much average height.

That adhesive comment was probably a bit early for his decision making here..
Sir, some of the hoods without hood scoops) tend to shimmy in the wind at high speed. Mine does as well but I have not addressed it yet. It requires a return trip to the dealer or some professional body adhesive..
A Tacoma sounds fine for your occasional hauling, especially after reading about your trip to Florida. You'll be fine with a Tacoma but if you stay on this forum, you'll also need to be really keen about picking your battles. We like everything perfect around here, not excluding myself.

A Manx from a super. Don’t see that very often. Neat. I started my rebuild from here

People who say the Tacoma doesn’t tow well, usually haven’t actually towed with the truck. As long as you stay within the limits of the vehicle it does just fine. I’ve got a little over 10,000 miles towing in my truck all across the country with loads from 2,000-5,000 lbs and never had a problem. Get a good brake controller and don’t be afraid to rev. Only part that sucks is looking for gas every 200 miles or so. I always carried a spare 10 gallons, just in case.

I would recommend either getting the manual transmission or if you get the auto, swap to 4.88 gears. The ratios from the factory in the auto suck for towing unless you like to stay in 3rd and 4th gear.
