I recently installed a set of TRD Pro (beadlock style) wheels on my 2015 Tacoma. I noticed that I only get about 6.5 turns on the lug nuts by the time I reach 85 ft-lb of torque. I'm using Gorilla spline drive cone seat lug nuts. I don't believe these wheels have large enough holes to allow an ET lug nut. Being that these are "factory" wheels, I assumed everything should fit perfect and be safe, but I'm a little worried about the thread engagement. Has anybody else noticed this issue?

As you can see in this pic, you wouldn't be able to run ET lugs since the holes are just large enough for the wheel studs.

I believe so too. The factory alloy wheels lug nuts should work fine.

No, the TRD Pro beadlock style wheels use a conical seat lug nut. No question about that. I ordered a small package of the McGard spline drive lugs to test. I don't think it will make a difference, but just want to rule the Gorilla lug nuts out as the issue.

What is a conical flat seat lug? I think it's one or the other. Just so we're on the same page, these are the wheels I have.

Yeah, those lug nuts won't even fit into the holes on the wheels. The holes are a lot smaller than stock wheels, which is why spline drive lugs are required.

Did the 2015 TRD Pro have different lug nuts than other 2nd gens?

Bored at work so I did some looking. You’re right, they’re not the flat ones. Here’s a shitty pic of the install guide for those wheels and the TRD lugs. Part number ptr27-35100, TRD Wheel Install Kit.

Yes, the TRD Pro came with these wheels and the lug nuts were part number PTR27-35100. It has been previously confirmed that the Toyota lugs for these wheels are made by McGard (part #65357). I have the Gorilla brand equivalent of those lugs. Mine have 6.5 turns of thread engagement, which doesn't seem like much. I'm looking for confirmation from anybody else who has experience with these wheels to see if they had a similar experience. I ordered a small 4 pack of the McGard lugs to see if the issue is somehow specific to the Gorilla lugs.

Yes those TRD Pro / TX / TX Pro / Baja wheels use the Mcgard spline drive conical seat lug nuts. I originally had those wheels on my 2011 TX. My SCS and Venomrex wheels get the same amount of thread engagement. I torque them to factory spec and check them regularly like I do tire pressures and I have no issues.

I got a 4 pack of the McGard lugs today (same as the TRD Pro lugs) and they have slightly less thread engagement than the Gorilla brand, so I guess I'll just stick with what I have. I wish it had a few more turns of engagement, but I guess there's probably thousands of Tacomas with this setup running around.
