Just picked up my new Taco yesterday. I examined the grill for the embellishment , but normal grill. I looked behind grill back to radiator , did NOT see anything electronic. But above and beside rear view mirror is a electronic box and viewer and is labeled Trapazoidal Control. Is this a new mod to eliminate the grill and lift issues with grill mount ??

    Sorry forgot to add pkg

The sensor would be directly behind the emblem. It doesn't stick out much, but you should see a cable and a plug. If that is not there, maybe they did change something. My 2018 has a box by the rearview mirror, I wonder if it is a different box now.

Look at the toyota emblem on the grille. Is it shiny?

It's different than previous emblems more of a image. I will get pictures tomorrow and recheck the emblem for any wiring. If behind emblem I wonder how the 3" lift going in next week will affect the sensor and control

Yup, that’s it. The emblem isn’t a 3D figure anymore, it’s a smooth, slightly domed piece of shiny plastic with the image of the Toyota logo inside. The sensor is behind that. The wiring isn’t super obvious but the sensor is held in by only 2-3 screws and is about the size of your hand, maybe a tad smaller.

And the lift effecting the sensor is almost as hotly debated as “what’s the biggest tire I can fit without CMC/lift” or 9mm vs 45.

Thanks, I now see that is a sensor. Wonder how that affects the ProGrill that seems like most have to switch to ?
Mine is already sched for LineX rockers, fender flairs, rear bumper, grill. Also ordered a A.R.E. OverlandCap a couple weeks before my truck came in. Tires and wheels be on next week FN FX pro's Bronze, 17x 8 , and KA 2s ,
Thanks again for the sensor insight

If you get a trd pro grille the stock sensor gets moved to the new location on the new grille. You just have to make sure to get the new garnish for it (if it doesnt come with ine already).

There is also a video camera up there next to the rearview mirror, but we can't access it or the footage on it.

Nobody has hacked that yet? Is it a regular camera or a time of flight camera or something?

Around here in my small town there are about a dozen 3g Tacos, at least 10 have the pro grill, I go to neighboring areas, same thing. So I am keeping my new grill just the way it is. I have a rare non-Pro grill...lol.

I’ve got a 3” lift and 33’s on mine and it didn’t affect it at all. Works exactly as it did before the mods.

That's why I kept the stock grille on my truck. I did get rid of the chrome trim ring around it though.

Swapped it out with the black ring from the SR.

Please post pics of the sensor behind the new emblem. In fact, post pics of that whole thing, front and back. This is VERY interesting! And on my 2019 TRD Sport, that box behind the rear view mirror, contains camera that works with the TSS system. I was told that it was a Go Pro mount, but I have no idea how to mount a Go Pro there, if indeed, that was correct.
