first time Tacoma owner here. I love my truck and have had a chance to put about 300 miles on it.

It’s brand spanking new and I’ve noticed a little bit of a vibration/buzz right around the 2k rpm range. I can feel it in the steering wheel and a tiny bit in the pedal. Is this normal? I guess I can live with it but it is annoying at highway speeds.

I searched but didn’t turn up much. Is this a normal characteristic of the truck? Should I take it to service or no?

No vibes in the test-drive? We can't drive it which makes it difficult to give you advice. Mine doesn't have any vibes IMO so if it suddenly developed them I would take it in.

    Common I believe. I don't think there's a way to fix it.

It's a "common complaint". Semantics man.

I have it on my 16 and many others do. I haven't found a fix besides the dampener buried in there took some feel out. Maybe I should try more than one but then I'm in the irritating situation of spending money on something toyota should have addressed and fixed. Some have luck with higher octane. First tacoma and probably last because of it and you can say that a pathetic reason but my truck shouldn't feel like a used bogged down bee's nest in the pedal a few months after purchase. And I don't even have 15k on it lol.

Now that I have searched around a bit more I have found a few others with the same complaint. I think I can live with it because it’s very minor but I hope it doesn’t get worse. I’m still in the break in period and haven’t even put 500 miles on it yet so maybe it will smooth out a bit. My wife drove the truck and didn’t even notice it but I’m very aware of things like this. As long as it doesn’t get worse I think I’m ok.

The more research I do it just sounds like exhaust harmonics and a characteristic of the truck.

Keep in mind that the Tacoma is not considered by Toyota to be a luxury vehicle, its a utility vehicle. As such, they haven't spent time dealing with exhaust harmonics like they have with Lexus and soccer mom models. Basically they assume the standard user isn't going to be, to put this delicately, a prissy little bitch about a little vibration. :p At least that's my read of the issue.

That said, it would appear it's worse on some vehicles versus others, or the drivers are just more sensitive.

Its funny, compared to previous models of compact/midsize trucks over the last 50 some years, the 3rd gen drives like a Cadillac. I had a 2000 Ranger before this, and it was rough, yet it wasn't an issue cause I didn't expect anything better, and in fact it drove much better than 80/90s models of trucks I had to compare it to. The idea of a truck being a luxury vehicle is still a relatively new phenomenon, with full size trucks going this route for the first time in human history in the 00s.

The problem with a lot of posts on TW is that they come from people who used to drive cars/SUV/luxury full-size trucks, and/or this is the first new vehicle they have ever bought, and thus are super sensitive.

I would take it in to at least have the issue documented and see what they say. If it's not that urgent/important to you then bring it up when you go in for your first maintenance at six months.

This little truck gives a lot of feedback similar to older vehicles, through the seat, steering wheel, gas pedal etc. You can always feel what the truck is doing. Some people love it for that but if your not used to it, it can feel like something is wrong. I trade a lot "just a bad habit" and most recently came from a 2018 Silverado. That truck felt like a giant Cadillac, floating around, comfy, zero feedback from the road. So it took me some time to adjust to the Tacoma. I used to have a 2016 SR5 so I knew what to expect though. It will also smooth out some over time. At 800 miles it already feels a lot better than when leaving the dealer lot.

Edit: I should also note that the stock tires on the OR are in my opinion the worst tires I've ever had on any vehicle.... ever.... I test drove 3 OR on the lot and all 3 had flat spots with the tires from sitting and mine was built just 5 weeks before I purchased it. This is also something that will start smoothing out with time and a re-balancing helps but my dealer let me pick any new set I wanted online and got them for me at no extra charge. Made me feel better about the 2k worth of accessories the truck had thrown on it.

Great comment! Yes your absolutely right. It really doesn’t bother me and others do it so honestly who cares! It’s a truck.

I don’t think I’ll notice it when I’m driving through rivers, rocks, mud ect lol

    ..I love this little truck
