Damn. This shit is annoying AF.
Hopefully they hear me out and fix it. I spent a pretty penny and was hoping things would work out. Frustrated...

Did you look at your receipt yet to see how much gear oil they charged you for?

Worst case if you have to do it yourself all you need is a new drain plug, they're cheap.
Much better than if the diff gasket had gone bad and was leaking
And that plug @TheDevilYouLove posted is a good upgrade. The hex key plugs like what our Tacomas use get stripped stupid easily.

Whoever did the work should be let go. Sometimes those things get stuck in there like no other and you have to fight them out but that should never have been put back in your truck. They need to take it out put in a new plug and refill your gearbox with an apology and no cost to you if they don't then that shop isn't worth a shit you shouldn't have to buy yourself anything

This . The shop obviously chiseled the plug out and damaged the sealing surface. Bunch of hacks.

    No fluid on my invoice.

Shop says they never saw this or dealt with any of the diff fluid while doing the cv axles. They say if they saw it they would have mentioned.

They also say this probably happened a long time ago and that they’d have no reason to have fucked it up and not said anything about it.

I guess it could have been a previous owner. Still not sure how to proceed.

Hopefully it’s just a matter of replacing the plug.

If the sealing surface is fucked up what would that mean? What’s the worst case scenario here ? Replacing the diff?

Living with a slow leak until I can afford to fix?

They chiseled thru to the threads. Oil will pass thru the straight threads and out. Hopefully the differential housing is ok- you'll know when you pull the plug. If it's nicked up then clean it up and a little RTV in the groove.

Dunno, but that looks like fresh damage to me. Way too clean and shiny metal on the chisel surface to have been like that for long.

BS! It just magically started leaking right after they replaced the halfshafts? I haven't had my halfshafts out yet, but doesn't some gear oil dribble out when you pull the halfshafts? Shouldn't they have checked the gear oil and topped it off? How could you not notice that mess when it's right there 3" away from where you're working?

I still have a hard time believing that all the parts they replaced were worn out at 60K miles.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Also calling BS on the shop. Had that been done a long time ago the metal would have shown some signs of oxidation. That looks like it happened yesterday.
