Any vehicle service under 50k miles is just oil change and tire rotation. Maybe air filters. If they try to sell you plugs or fluid exchange services, its most likely too soon.

As much as I want to be a smart ass and go along......... dude don’t show them the TW poll. They’ll be nice to you, but laugh at you when you leave. You’ll most likely get off on the wrong foot doing this unless you know your service advisor and shop foreman personally with a credible relationship. They see a lot of these trucks.

This is bad advice, they will take the pole seriously and get everything fixed pronto due to the scientifically collected data....They care what TW has to say.

I understand. I'll probably just show them the soot and tell them that most don't have it. If they balk, I'll show them the poll. It is not even close to being professional if they act as you suggest they might. If I feel like I'm been shooshed, I'll say so. If they want my business...

This is clearly the best way to go about it, personally I'd lead with the poll.

    Looks good to me.

I just spoke with dealer service. It turns out, oil changes on vehicles with synthetic oil are only done every 10k miles or 12 months. I've hit neither. I'll have owned the Tacoma for 1 year this September (2019) so I'm gonna wait to get service then since it's only 2 months away. Who wants to sit at the Toyota dealer any more than they have too? In the meantime, I'm gonna clean the soot out of the tailpipe and monitor the soot level over the next 2 months.

Thanks for your responses but please continue to cast you vote on the poll but I think the consensus is that there shouldn't be this much soot on a Tacoma tailpipe, much less a Tacoma with only 5k miles on it.

    Tacoma World is freaking awesome.
