definitely always know where passport, ID, boarding pass, credit cards etc are. its amazing how many people don't always have that stuff at the ready. I also always have $20 cash because you never know.

I use mobile boarding passes but depending on the trip I'll usually have a printed copy or a PDF saved...just in case. It's saved me a couple times when my flights magically changed due to delays

I learned early on to always have at least 2 credit cards. I've lost track of how many times on day 2 of my trip a card gets shut down.

Yup. Cash and backup card is always really good to have. I rolled with at least $60+ if I was in the US, or a decent amount of local currency if I was abroad. (But dont let it be known you're carrying much cash..)

And a photocopy of my passport in my luggage, not sure if it would actually do any good, but better than nothing

It'll get you through the front door of the US embassy at the very least, which is step one of getting home.

    A thing or two...
Thanks all for the comments. I've traveled for work in the past but never with this regularity. So far, it sounds like I'm on the right track.

I'm in the various membership programs (AA, Choice, Avis, etc).

I have a Maxpedition bag that I carry my laptop, paperwork, and other gear in that stays with me. My main suitcase (that I'm looking to replace) is a Coleman that I picked up years ago at Walmart. It's the maximum carry on size, but only good for about a 3-4 day trip (which should be the average). This trip I'm on right now is twice that, so I had to break out an old duffle bag I've had forever.

I'm a test engineer, so my trips are to the facility that is performing the testing for us. I oversee the tests, ensure everything is setup correctly, and take care of paperwork.
