After my 2006 tacoma sport sat for about 6 months I finally figured out the problem, it was a crank positioning sensor. I was driving it last week, someone brake checked me , had to lock them up. I played hell getting my driver side rear to unlock. I had to put it in reverse back up then it would free up. Now, I'll be turning left , only happens when I'm turning left, it'll lock up for no reason. Alot times my foot is on the gas not on the brake. Does anyone know WTF is causing this ?

Try taking the drums off cleaning them, adding small dabs of lube where the contact points are to the backing plates and getting a correct adjustment on them and see if that helps.

Ovrindkull, that sounds like excellent advice for your situation when they lock after you apply the emergency brake, it just doesn't sound like my problem. My rear brake is engaging on its own for no apparent reason. But, thank you for your input.

A good cleaning, lube, inspection, and adjustment sounds exactly like what your brakes need. That's how "no apparent reasons" turn into "apparent reasons".

Kinda what I was thinking unless the emergency brake cable for that side is binding somehow and engaging. It's a very odd scenario. Starting with the basics is where I would go

I guess my question is , if this a cleaning or random issue , why isnt it happening when I'm driving normal or taking a right , why does it only happen when turning left ? I've seen some articles on some chevy and Chrysler's having a similar problem, but never read into them very deeply, thinking that seens how this is a toyota and hoping it was a problem other people have experienced, that this is a symptom and there may be an exact problem and fix for it. FYI the first thing I did was take the drum off and looked for rust and oiled all mechanical parts.
