I did the fish oil pills for a long time then quit. No difference in labs. Tried the dark chocolate too but couldn't find a dark chocolate light enough that wasn't too bitter or wasn't milk chocolate...that ketchup will get you though.

Gotta love having a good doc though. One problem with using the base is I usually have an active duty doc. By the time we build a rapport they usually leave or retire then have to start over again.

Absolutely try it. With having the "big 3" it's super hard to keep them all under control without starving or living on alfalfa sprouts. My diet is heavier on meat and vegetables. I usually manage to keep the 2 cholesterol levels close. Triglycerides are 50/50. Staying away from processed meats is kinda hard. Even the better deli meats aren't all that healthy in that regard. So I do the best I can. But nowadays even "fresh" has more preservatives than they use to because the local processors keep getting further away.

Just started the fish oil pills 6 months ago. But the Doc says it's got to be the ones with the straight EPA ingredient. He’s want my cholesterol down around 70.

Best thing for me was making sure to stay hydrated, then eating oatmeal most mornings.

Any of you watch Shark week last night ???? , they had researchers down at Guadalupe island near Baja California . If you remember a couple years ago they found and documented the Great White shark named "Deep Blue " . This female shark is over 18' long and near 4500lbs and was just recently sighted of the island of Oahu

The Great White they found last night dwarfs Deep Blue and also when swimming next to 18' male Great White dwarfed that shark as well

I tried the oatmeal but was gaining weight. For the last couple years I've been having 2 belvita crackers (golden oat) then a couple 3 hours later a banana. There's 4 to a pack. They seem to strike a happy medium but, being an operator (sitting on my ass most of the day) I don't burn off what most of you guys do so it doesn't take much.

I would have to live on tofu for that.
My family is in the 4 to 500 without meds.
I'm low 2's. Tried stuff but made my joints ache so bad I couldn't work

Nope, just the "recommended" serving of steel cut oats. It's all hit and miss with all the recommendations from docs and dieticians and not everybody has the same reactions as the next person.

Nope. Every Ford I've owned was a pain to work on. One of my minor reasons for dumping the Ram; oil filter location - PITA, changing headlight bulbs - PITA. I did both once and then resorted to having them done at dealer. In contrast, DIY MX on every Toyota we've owned (6 of them, soon 7) never brought out my GOB side. PERIOD
    Attaboy!

I've had great luck with the VA Docs here. Current batch are predominately female, and all straight shooters. Might be the Alaska factor ... tends to draw a certain quality of people, amongst professionals anyway. :notsure:

When I lived in San Diego they had a few Tricare clinics that employed civilian docs but they still moved around and had a huge patient load with all the military retirees there. So, they did the best they could which wasn't bad, just not great and I hated driving through all that traffic.

I think the worst part is getting the new 0-2 doc that wants to change the world and (like all good NCO's) we have to get them to stop and listen and train them as their patients and get them up to speed about where we are, what's worked and what hasn't. I like when they hit 0-3/0-4, a little more seasoned and not as jittery and nervous.

The other factor that helps here, IMGOBO, is our lower population in general doesn't overtax the VA system. Military Docs though, I agree...always been hit or miss, regardless of rank in many cases. On active duty, I always tried to get an enlisted hospital person in my "network" ... aligned my PCM by their recommendation whenever possible. Some of the best PCM Docs were prior enlisted med techs who went Physician's Assistant (PA) officer.

I can imagine. This base has gotten better about spreading out appointment times and still has a "sick call" for retirees. Doesn't seem much of a wait time for my appointments. They are usually within 5-10 minutes before or after the appointment time. I think the only real hiccup is when I have to call for labs. Use to be we could just call for labs every 180 days and the appointment clerk would hook it up and I'd know then when it was. Now they refer the info to an RN who, in turn, does a consult with the doc then they set the appointment and call me back. Still doable just don't have that give and take about the most convenient time for me. I try to get them on a Friday so I don't have to use leave time from work. Yes, I'm whining....

I have oatmeal 3 or 4 mornings a week. And I drink beverages that are made from barley. Thought that might help too.
