Ok, this question should have been asked first. What do you want to do with your truck?
    a) Mall crawler
    b) Rock crawler (there are no rocks in FL.. I know I lived there 10 years)
    c) Mud Bogger
    c2) Mud Drag Racing
    d) Desert Racer
    e) ...?

Your answer will change the help you get from everyone here.

You can run Dana60s or similar and be fine if you aren't thrashing on it. If you are running a 350HP/400ft-lbf small block, with 6.xx gears, 44" tires, etc, and Hammering on it... You WILL break something.

You intended application will dictate the upgrade path.

To answer your question, the R2.5Ts will handle just about anything. They come off a deuce and a half (M35) which depending on config weighs 16,000lb and could carry another 10,000lb on roads. It has about 300ft-lbf of torque for reference.

You will need to swap to a solid axle up front. 35s push the limits of the stock independent suspension. Anything bigger than that will pretty much end up ripping the front apart.

A well built (heavily upgraded) D44 will be as strong as a stock D60. Since you are replacing the axles already, Go with an upgraded D60 or bigger. Hitting the skinny pedal and hearing the tell-tale *bang* of ring gear breaking or an axle snapping is not a good sound when you are 70 miles from home in 2' of mud.

Build it right... build it once.

I don't have much more to offer on the subject... FL Mudders tend to have 12 hockey pucks stacked up to keep the body out of the gunk.... don't do that.

Do it right with D60's. The D44's will probably not be strong enough for 39's and a 350.

if your gonna be running 44's then go Dana 60s if bigger then go with the rock wells(damn near indestructible)
i wouldn't go with Dana 44's (there about as strong as a built toyota axle and can handle around a 37 in tire

what tranny and tcase are you gonna use?
id suggest a th400 tranny and a atlas 2 transfer.

you do realize that this is gonna be a time consuming project and a costly proj and if this is your only mode of transportation then id suggest buying a cheap car/truck for yourself in the meantime

but yea as someone said check over on ttora they will be able to help you alot

if you really want to get fancy...a set of diamond or dynatrac axles...but there goes your $15K budget...on pretty much 1 axle
