Hi, New to this forum. I have a 19 Sr5 4x2. I want to put knobby or bigger tire on my stock 16's. I just would like a size I can use without lifting and with minimal RUbbing. Has anybody else done this? thank you.

The largest normal width tire size, that is not a “pizza cutter”/narrow tire” is 265/75/16. This is a very popular and functional size that requires no modifications. This is two sizes larger than the tires on an SR, but still fits fine with no cutting or rubbing in all but a few strange cases.

Welcome to the forum from Eastern North Carolina. The OE tires on my 2019 SR5 are 245/75/16 Toyo Open Country. I have seen 265/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller A/Ts on these trucks. They look and perform well for mud/snow, mostly street use. I ran these for many years on my 2007 Colorado. (Those were 15s)

    Welcome to Tacomaworld!

265/75r16 won't rub at all with factory specs. If you dial a little extra caster on your alignment, 255/85r16 (pizza cutter) 33s will fit no problem, either. 285/75r16 (wide 33s) will generally rub on the cab mount and, depending on wheel specs, your upper control arm.

Short answer, 32s (265/75r16) or skinny 33s (255/85r16) will be the biggest with no mods.

You should be fine, but who knows, you may have to do plastic bending. Each taco is a beautiful snowflake!

I think they guys who have issues with 265/75/16 (31”s) are typically running wheels spacers or wheels with a lot of offset. I see 100’s of Tacos on 31s, where I live, a doubt any of them have done any trimming.

I think 235/85R16s look great. They're the same height as 265/75R16s, but only 0.39" narrower than stock (according to the calculator).

I thought SR’s come with 245/75/16? They’re 31” tires which means +1 sizing if he goes to 265/75/16.

There is 265/70/16 in the middle there. That’s is the stock OR size, but yes, that’s increasing in width, so I see your point.

235 would actually be 30 mm narrower which is 1.181 inches . I run the 235/85/16s and like the look of them 20190208_154449.jpg

    Like, so many.
Maybe look at a hybrid tire like the Nitto Ridge Grappler or the Duratracs.

You're right, those DO look good. An aggressive looking tread for sure. I bet they're great for snow. How noisy are they at highway speeds on dry pavement?
