my engine is near-excellent in its old age, I am still breaking it in!

 

How's the new engines performance with the MT?

 

pretty great considering I have owned both an AT and MT, the MT gives the sensation that you have much more control over the powerband of the engine.

If you are buying a 3rd gen, the manual is the only transmission you should consider. The gearing in the MT fits this motor well (aside from reverse). The AT is geared way too high to do anything.

 

I drove auto and manual 3rd gens, I wouldn't have bought an auto, I would have kept my '15 or bought something else if I couldn't get a manual.

 

A lot of people say to get the redline heavy shockproof and put it in the diffs and manual trans. That is the way on 1st gens at least

 

The few times I’ve driven one, yeah they seem a bit lethargic

 

Being able to decide what gear, coupled with the 4.30s is really good. I am barely over 100 miles but I can chug along in 5th or 6th at 50 on the country roads near our house. Getting a whopping 19.5mpg so far

 

How would doing 70-80 on the interstate do? I imagine really bad lol

 

Once you are broken in, that can be 6th at 35 and still gain speed on gentle inclines.

Great for me. MPGs drop bit over 65, but no complaints.

 

If I cruise at 50 mph, I’ll get 25 mpg

 

The auto will get 15 doing 80 if you are lucky, the MT will get 18-20 pretty easily.

 

With the stock tires I am getting real close to 20 at 75, that's on flat'ish ground. I am going either 265/70/17 or 255/75/17 in a SL-rated Duratrac and SCS wheels so I will gain maybe 5lbs, if that, per corner and more height, shouldn't be too bad though. I would guess the stock Sport wheels are 25lbs, the SCS are 22, and the stock tires are right around 40lbs, the 255 are 42lbs I think.

 

just went from a 16OR to a 19Pro. the trans feels significantly different. clutch softer, gears feel completely different. anyone else notice if they had the opportunity to compare?

 

Hmm....they should be identical?

I know you can get variation truck to truck and you’ll never find 2 MTs identical, but there shouldn’t be a huge discrepancy like that

I don't know who would say that but I had mt-90 in before I switched to heavy shockproof from redline. The mt-90 did just fine in freezing northern Michigan weather. Not sluggish at all. If it's that cold you are supposed to let her warm up a bit anyway further increasing the amount of success.

 

There were a bunch of negative reviews on Amazon and other places talking about it being super stiff in the cold. I went with Redline MTL instead. Seems to work pretty good.

 

Well the all knowing Amazonian's must know best. I doubt there is much difference but I have been running Redline Heavy Shockproof for like 160k miles so I cannot remember if there really was a difference 10+ years ago when I used MT90

 

there is nothing wrong with my stock but this looks sharp (if it fits to mine i don't have a clue)
