    While they are the same internal dimensions accessories are not swapable between the two.

    Same length/width but shells, some bedracks and tonneau covers won't be transferable from 2nd to 3rd gen and vice versa

    A shell will definitely not fit. One of the biggest problems is the tailgate is much thicker at the top on the 3rd gen than the 2nd gen.
