    I just posted this same question over in 4runners and thought i'd take a shot here as well. I finally convinced myself to put a small lift on my 4runner. I also convinced myself to have a shop do it this time so it gets done right. I have a few questions, as my last lift was a standard OME 885x on my tacoma, and i'm moving up a little;

    I only plan to take the truck to some of the path camping areas around the North East. I'm not rock crawling, not dessert racing or anything like that. Its my daily driver and I put 25-30k a year on my vehicle. It will mostly see highway use as i travel 50 miles round trip to work. I'm not putting armor on it. I do have a gobi rack. I will be using stock rims and moving up one size tire to 275's.

    I was looking at the kings and the BP-51's. I watched the filthy motorsports video and started leaning towards kings. My question is, what level suspension do i really need? I want something that rides better than the old OME I had, but I see all the different stage ICONs and kings and it makes me wonder how much of that is really needed as much as it is really show?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
    Bilstein 5100s would be fine.
    King, Fox, Icon all way overkill for how you expect to use it.

    I went with Bilstein 6112/5160 and rear coil springs from Wheelers for 1.5" lift. Rides great on road and off. Actually, my wife took it as her daily driver with the kids because of the nice ride and left me her Highlander.

    Only thing i dont like is that the rear sags too easily with cargo weight. Wish the coils were just a bit stiffer back there.

    Lots of things to consider when doing suspension. Some will say they don't go off-road much, but find themselves doing it more after they lift their truck and start adding modifications (its addicting!). You can always do something cheap now, and upgrade later when the budget allows. Or, if you do have the budget you can get a kit with some nice King or Fox shocks that can be tuned and rebuilt. Buy once, and adjust them along with the truck build. For ride quality, we custom tune shocks in our kits, they are not a factory setting. This allows us to make the shocks much smoother for any terrain you plan on driving on.

    I ended up going with BP-51's and dobinson t-13's in the rear. Any body have any idea what can be done for scratched front strut springs? The spring compressors wore through the coating on both front springs down to the metal, and i'd like to get it covered before they go on.
