Just traded a 2012 Tacoma, with a factory furnished pigtail connected to a P2 brake controller, based on the Generic Wiring Diagram from Prodigy. The 2012 had a connection receptacle behind the driver's side kick panel. The new 2019, with the towing package, also has what looks like brake controller pigtail receptacle behind the driver's side kick panel, but the salesman claims that the 2019 towing option does not include a pigtail. What am I missing here?

He might be referring to the "pigtail" wire to the controller. The connector for that wire is behind the kick panel.

oly61: Thank you for your response. My problem was my living in the past. When I bought the 2012 Tacoma, a typical hookup was to splice wires from 2 pigtails. Toyota included a 1-plug wiring harness with 5 wires attached to the plug, which they referred to at the time as a pigtail. The plug for the Toyota pigtail fit into a receptacle behind the driver's side kick panel. Four of these wires I then spliced to the corresponding 4 wires on the controller pigtail. When I picked up the 2019 yesterday, I was surprised not only that no Toyota pigtail came with the towing package, but also that no one at the dealership understood what the hell I was talking about.

I think I'm back on the straight and narrow. Just bought a Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter, which should do the trick.

You should be good to go. Tekonsha makes plug and play pigtails for their controllers that fit Toyota, as well as most other vehicles. No splicing necessary.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I just swapped over my Prodigy P2 from my 1st gen to my new 2019. I used an adapter pigtail form ETrailer for like $11. Was a 10 minute install job.
