I have a new 18 offroad v6 with auto tranny. question #1/how can I go about draining ALL the fluid from the tranny as I want to switch to amsoil & want to get as much of the factory oil out as possible? I realise I won't be able to get all the old oil out but as much as possible. q2/ I understand to pin the temp. pin in & use an allen wrench through the holes to keep it pinned open. q3/ If I use a temp probe to register the tranny temp coming from the check hole, after the refill to obtain the proper oil level, why do I need to apply the paperclip under the dash? This is my first taco & am very impressed with it!! thanks

Trans and transfer case are very picky. WS Fluid only in my toyotas. that being said, drop the pan>remove the drain plug

Will not empty converter. Maybe 1/2 the volume if lucky?

While this is a bit dated, it does offer WS alternatives.

If your truck is new as you say, I'd check the level and let it go.

At 30k intervals drain and fills will be adequate to keep all the additive packages fresh. And that's using the truck pretty hard.

There is nothing wrong with Amsoil as a choice. But there is nothing magical about it that makes it worth boutique prices either.

Fluid is not an issue with Toyotas, it's already synthetic and I have never seen it break down.

Only way to fully drain is remove converter, drop pan, drop filter. Huge waste of time and money.

Just make sure it’s full of WS. Leave alone. Change fluid at recommended mileage and you will continue to be impressed as I am with mine. ‘18 OR.

There are threads on TW about how to change all the auto trans fluid.

Basically you disconnect the fluid line at the trans fluid cooler. Drain the trans pan. Fill the pan. Run the trans until 3 quarts of fluid comes out the the trans cooler line. Add 3 qts of fluid to the trans pan. Repeat until 11-12 quarts of fluid is replaced.

Some use a garden spray tank to pump the trans fluid simplifying the stop, fill, start steps.

Me, I started annual pan drain & fills after 40k miles. Using Valvoline MaxLife.
