shoping 4 new tacoma access cab.. v6 utility package?

I use the truck for carpentry work and find it very convenient to store tools behind the seats.
If I buy new I will just remove rear seats. seems crazy they don't make utility pkg in V6?

I removed mine. Three bolts each and the rear seats come right out. I need to remove the headrests next; at a super quick glance it wasn't obvious to me how (I'm talking like a 30 second glance over). I need to research this more. I also yanked the back seat center console area (and the bracket under it)... this opens up the area even more. Storing everything in garbage bags and boxed away in the garage in case I sell or trade in someday.

 

You are correct. The utility package only comes in 4 cylinder like mine. Its very roomy back there and not enough space for people to sit anyways.

 

i disagree

it depends on the size of the person. 5'9 and under can fit back there comfortably unless front seat occupants are gargantuan 6'2 and up. i did thorough testing prior to buying my access cab. i literally bribed friends of different sizes to come to the dealership with me to do the testing.

I am using the driver's side rear seat as a shelf for my dog's crate and it also then gives me access to items stored on the floor below.

has anyone taken out what looks like one molded plastic panel of backrests to gain that little extra room?
In the utility pkg it looks blank ,maybe a little more room? I need utility pkg in a V6 Its crazy its not an option..

 

I think the purpose of the Utility Package was to have the least expensive configuration so adding the V6 would not really make sense.

 

Not sure if this platform would fit your needs to store tools, but I made one for my dog. Also comes in handy to bring stuff home when shopping.

^ the access cab dog platform thread has a ton of good info. The back seats in the access cab are pretty much useless but still great space for storage/tools/other things. I completely removed my back seats to make the dog platform. It could easily be adapted for an area to organize your tools.

 

TruxMat, Dewalt tool boxes and HF Secure box make a nice platform for AC.

Since there seem to be a few Access Cab owners here, can anyone tell me if it’s possible to remove the rear headrests and keep the seats.

 

Yea took my headrest out last year, there is a 1inch square popout on each side of the upright part of each seat. Carefully pop them out and the bolts are under that. Then you can unbolt the headrest from the back of the cab. I left the seats in and just removed the headrest, couldnt stand them blocking my view.
