just ordered a set of SCS F5’ 16-8 4.50” back spacing. I was wondering if anyone has encountered rubbing with a similar set up running 265/75R16. I’m looking at getting KO2’s. Wheels are on the way and won’t be able to order tires till I get some help figuring this out and if I’d need to order 265/70R16 instead of the 265/75’s. No lift running stock 2008 Trd off-road suspension. Thanks to anyone that can help me figure this out.

Welcome to TW! I was looking into the same thing a while back. General consensus is that 265/75/16 is the largest tire you can run stock without rubbing. I’d say go for it.

Will the difference in my new wheels being 16x8 and 4.5” back spaced make a difference front the stock 16x7 when it comes to rubbing issues ?

Maybe somebody with more experience with this can chime in here. But yes they will poke out more so they may cause a bit of rubbing but most likely on just the mud flaps. Often times it seems to depend on what model tire you run and how much off-roading you do.

I’m planning on getting KO2’s I read in a older thread that the 16x8 wheels caused more rubbing compared to the 16x7 and that was after he took his mud flaps off. Just looking for for anyone that may have dealt with the same situation in the past.

I just put new tires and wheels on my truck. 16x8 with 0 offset and 4.5 back space. With my 16x7 I never rubbed.
As soon as I went to the 16x8 I had to remove the little flaps in the front of the tire or the tires would have done it for me. It’s fine now with the 265/75/16’s. With that wheel size you’ll have more poke and that causes the minor issue.

I believe they will rub. I have the same size tires with 1.75" lift in front and they still rubbed. The mud flaps will have to go or be modified. I took mine off. On the front side of the tires I simply heated the inner plastic at the points of contact and remolded them. No rubs now :)

Thank you guys! I think I’m going to play it safe for now and go with 265/70r16’s and later on down the road when I lift it go for bigger tires.

with your scs wheel specs(16x8 4.5 backspace with 0 offset), you can run 265/75/16 with no rubbing if you just remove the front mud flaps on stock suspension. i ran that setup before just fine.

There appears to be some discrepancies here. Prehaps the type of tire plays into this. I was using Goodyear Wrangler Authoritys. They are a AT tire with an aggressive / deep tread pattern. All 265/75/16 tires may not have the exact same overall size and tread width? The picture I posted here is with a 1" spacer. You can see it above the wheel. I installed bilsten 5100's and set them at 1.75" lift (Second from top) and still had rubs.

i cannot speak for someone who is running aftermarket wheels, but with any stock rims that came on a toyota, so long as they clear the rotors (inner rim diameter is big enough) then you will have no issues. once you start messing with back spacing, if it isn't the same as stock backspace, you run the risk of rubbing.
save yourself a headache and go to a tire/wheel shop and find out what fits before you buy.
I can tell you that 265/75/16 will definitely not rub if you run any stock/factory Tacoma rims.
I put 17" Toyota FJ cruiser steelies on my truck with 265/70/17's and no rub.
With that said, as mentioned above, not all tires have the same overall height/width even though they both may say 265/75/16.....goodyear may ne taller than bfgs, or falkens etc.
BFG KO2's fit. perfectly. That size in BFG will completely change your trucks looks for the better- go for the KO2's

Nice looking setup! What year is that? I'm not sure clearance will be the same on Sam's 2008 as yours.

So from everything I’m reading I need to run the regular 265/70r16’s unless I lift and do some trimming
