The Dealer was trying to sell me on the platinum extended warranty while at the same time telling me how the truck would just be breaking in at 100k miles. Has anyone used their warranty or extended warranty for repairs the would have exceeded $1k?

I have used it twice in my first year, rear passenger shock with a blown seal and driver visor detaching from ceiling. Neither of these items are considered to be parts likely to fail. If something will fail due to being defective from the factory, its likely to happen in the standard warranty period. And the odds are very high something will fail out of the some 18,000 parts a vehicle is constructed of.

That said, there are a few items that could take longer to fail, due to not being used often, all year around. For only $1k, I would probably pull the trigger, my understanding is that is the lowest price the extended warranty is offered.

I bought the extended warranty purely because of all of the electronics that are on the truck, but haven't had to really use it for that as of yet.

The one thing I did bring the truck in for was for my 3rd brake light leak. I was within even the standard warranty for that, and the dealer/Toyota Canada denied the request because I had "modified the tail light". By modify, I had applied a tail light vinyl tint on it.

I completely forgot I had it on there, but for them to deem a tail light tint as a detrimental modification was pure BS.

They quoted me $2600 for platinum 7 years 100k miles with a $25 deductible if its repaired at their dealership chain, $125 at any other. Im looking online to see if it can be had cheaper. Chances of above a $1k claim is kinda my gauge on if I can benefit from the warranty or if I should pay as I go on repairs.

Too much for 100k. $2000 for 7 years/125k or call Geico and ask for a mechanical breakdown policy quote.

Keep the Geico one. At this rate it'll take 28 years to break even with what the dealer is offering.

@sandytacotrd4x4 I got the Platinum 8 year, 75K miles, no deductible, for a 2WD for $685. 4X4 of course will be more, but not four times more. This is not a 3rd party policy, paperwork came directly from Toyota.
