My new 2019 TRD OR had this vibration in the hood from the day I picked it up at the dealer on the same day it arrived (two weeks and 200 miles ago). The door sticker shows a build date of 5/19. After reading this thread, I checked the contact points between the hood skin and underlying frame and, yep, most had visible gaps between the sealant on the bottom and corresponding top. Today, I visited my dealer (Cowboy Toyota in Dallas) and asked them how they would address the issue as I did not want a new hood requiring in-house paint (Cement). The service rep said this was a first for her and agreed that the frame and skin should be solidly bonded. I sent her this thread illustrating the different treatment received from various dealers. She stated that it should be a warranty issue on Toyota and that resealing the joints as described in this thread appeared to be the best solution. She said she would check with her supervisor and get back to me. I realize this is not a complicated repair. However, as the vehicle is two weeks old, I want to either have the dealer make the repair or record the issue in the service history if an alternative solution does not work.

Toyota Corp rep agrees this is normal and nothing wrong. And is a design Characteristic And no repair is needed or can be done. And this happens when the engine gets hot. From normal driving.

Probably being a bit stubborn but...

Decided to get get some more facts to be able to present this matter to the dealership again to attempt a resolution...

Went to the local body shop to get an estimate to have the hood fixed at my own expense. (Regardless how Toyota decides it has to be fixed.) First shop said it is non fixable and the hood needs to be replaced. And it NOT normal to have the two skins debond like that.

So I drove over to the dealerships body shop to get them to give an estimate. Again they state the hood needs replaced. When asked them why the service center and Toyota claims it is normal they where shocked. . the estimator got his boss out to look at it and take pictures. And attempted to contact the service manager with no luck.

They are going to attempt push through a resolution from there side.

While across from the service centwe I stopped back by to see if the part they ordered for the fender came In.. and found out the delivery date... I again asked the service advisor why 2 body shops are saying the hood needs replaced including there own... but yet they. along with the Toyota field office is saying it is normal? Finally... got her attention. They attempted to again out me in touch with the sevice manager. However due to some unfortunate events with there staff, he has been swamped and this time he has another manager talk with me.

I explain the issue again, and show her my concern. Soon as I pop the hood she can clearly see the problem, and agrees that it does not appear to be "normal". She takes a bunch of pictures and my info so she can find out why the Toyota field rep is saying this normal and supposed to be that way.

Good job on not giving up, but you didn't have to make up that part about going back to pick up that "part"..

Glad to see that I’m not the only one with this issue. To the guy who said I shouldn’t fix it myself but take it to the dealer. Yet the dealer screwed up several things on his truck. That is exactly why I didn’t take it to them. And I don’t trust an in house painted hood to match my factory hood perfectly. It was an easy and free Fox for me and I’m pretty sure it will last.

My Toyota dealer responded within 24 hours to the photos I emailed. My truck is two weeks old.

"Our Toyota rep says there has been a concern with this issue. Please let me know what day works for you so I can reserve a loaner for you for the day."

I am calling this morning to confirm this does not involve a hood replacement. I will speak with the service rep today to discuss their solution and arrange for a loaner vehicle. I will update this thread when I know more.

Got a call back fro. Toyota the other day, now they are admitting this is a know. Issue and there is a TSB out for rebonding the hood skins on a 2019 Tacoma.

The rep asked of I have heard back from the dealer on the appointment for the repair and I said nope.. and I asked why of this was a known issue why did the service manager and Toyota both tell me this was normal and no repair needed, and she could ot give an answer other than maybe the TSB just came out in the last couple.days..

I picked up my repaired Tacoma yesterday. Cowboy Toyota in Dallas had it for two days while re- bonding the hood. They provided a loaner 2019 Tacoma OR while my truck was being serviced. The repair took one day longer than estimated as this was their first repair of this type and they wanted to get it right. I suspect they were unaware of the recent TSB. My drive home was only 8 miles so I had a limited opportunity to view the results. Still, I did not detect the jello-like vibration that was present from the first day of ownership. Dallas temperatures are now in triple digits and it will be interesting to see if they affect the bonding agent again. I have not looked under the hood at the repair but will do so today.

I am very pleased with the response from my dealership. Leesha, my service rep, has been on top of this problem since I brought it to her attention last week. She agreed that the condition was not normal, understood my reluctance to replace the hood, and promptly scheduled the repair and loaner car for my convenience. We also spoke by telephone several times while my Tacoma was being serviced. She's great.

I will continue to post updates if anything changes.

Oh, I noticed two things about the loaner 2019 Tacoma OR I used for two days. First, it had 10,000 miles on it and ran like a top - smooth, and not a squeak nor a rattle. Also, I observed a slight jiggle in the hood in the same place where mine danced around before the repair.

Do you have the tsb number? I’m sure there are some many on this forum who would love to have this info. Thanks.

I don't know how a hood replacement would fix the issue if they are using the same glue on them, it's so squishy and weak that my 4 year old could remove it with two fingers. Mine doesn't vibrate but I decided to look at it after seeing this thread. Build date is 6-19 and it does have a few spots that have separated. I'm just going to try and DIY fix it with something better than Toyota uses.

I believe my dealer used an adhesive from 3M. I would be interested in knowing what Toyota recommends to fix the issue in the new TSB mentioned in this thread.

When I went in to the dealer to pick up the replacement rubber hood bumper for the driver's side.. I tried getting the TSB, but they just told.me they was going to replace the hood and not fix it.

Been through the whole process, here are my very strong suggestions on how to proceed if you have this problem:

    1. FIX IT YOURSELF.

    2. Use the flexible 3M material, it will require a special caulk gun, slightly raising the cost.

    3. Don't use rigid seam sealer, it will dimple the hood when it temps get below freezing.

    4. Don't replace the hood, as a new hood will not have factory paint.

    5. FIX IT YOURSELF.

To explain what can go wrong by letting the dealer fix it would take too long, and frankly I have repressed most of the memory of that ordeal.

I ordered some 3M flexiclear seam sealer. Is that what I should be using? Thanks

My 2016, that I bought in October 2015, had this problem. Can’t believe they haven’t figured this out in the manufacturing process yet. WTF? My dealer did a half assed job fixing mine. I added a lot of gorilla glue sealeant to make it solid. No issues with it for over three years now but I can’t believe they are still sending out trucks with this problem.

This is the stuff that is supposed to be used as far as I know.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IU2IP...olid=1HRADISI9XR9U&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

If you do use something that is more rigid than the stuff that comes on the hood. Apply very small dabs (less than dime size) between hood skin and support frame at each support point. That will generally not result in dimples. It's where the less thermally sensitive material (with respect to the hood steel) is placed over areas bigger than say a quarter that will result in dimples/bumps.
