Is the tension on the wire spool too tight? I set mine so that the spool stops w/o coasting when spun by hand and w/o the wire threaded. And the wire tension set so that the wire will curl when driven against a board (at a slight angle) but not push the board away.

Definitely don’t over tighten it. It’ll wear out the bearing in the roller pre maturely. I’d check your spool of wire. My buddy’s and I have had issues with the last half dozen or so 10lb spoils of l-56 wire we’ve purchased thru hardware stores.

Is your only indication that it sputters sometimes? Maybe you have a bad ground.

Time for a new liner if you have not changed anything else.

As in your now welding overhead with the gun twisted like pretzel and having the front of the gun bent real hard .

I set my wire tension that it slips with pressure of my thumb and index finger

I have customers that endorse tighter is better to the point they fried two drive motors !!

Quite often I need my Multi Tool to loosen the wire feed tension .

Maybe too much stickout, try 1/2 - 3/4.

The way the video shows it is how they taught me when I was in school 15 years ago, but like I said earlier, if the spook of wire is rolled with almost no tension like the crap I’ve gotten from Home Depot or Lowe’s, you gotta hammer down on the tension of its impossible to keep it feeding well. I’ve never had this issue when I buy my wire from the local welding store.

Can I use the same ground wire for both 110 and 220 outlets?

You could, but the 2 different circuits are different size.

You are using stranded wire anyways, another length of 12 awg stranded, ground isn't going to be that much money.

I guess in a emergency one has to buy wire at places like Home Depot or Lowe`s where the wire diameter quality control is done only after the wire has shipped.

I work 60-70 hours a week at my day job. All the welding stores around me are only open Monday-Friday. If I have a weekday off I buy 30lb spoils from airgas. Otherwise I’m usually stuck buying wire from a larger hardware store. It hasn’t effected the quality of my work, so I don’t really big deal it. It can be a hassle, but if the spool is bad enough which one was, I’ll throw it away and buy another. I won’t turn out anything sub par over $40 in wire.

So what do you guys do to prep for welding on the truck? My TIG welder is high frequency start only so i'm really worried about frying like everything electronic on the truck. I know disconnect the battery leads, any other things i can do? Any different stuff for welding on the core support/body vs. welding to the frame?

    Same

I keep soaked towels to put around near where I'm welding. The primer paint on our trucks burns very well.

I also like to have a second person near.
