Just thought I'd share my mount I did in my truck for anyone interested in the doing something similar. I wanted to mount my gas near the back of my bed, and utilize my bed rail. Did a lot of research and couldn't find a good solution because it covers up the storage compartment.
I also have a hard bed cover, so I didn't want it to stick up too high. I bought the 1.5 gallon Fuelpax, which comes with a free mount on their Rotopax website. The container is 14 x 14. I was surprised how heavy duty the Fuelpax is!

I bought an 1/8" thick piece of steel and 2 hinges from a local steel shop, cost about $15. Welded the hinges to the top, painted it black with roll bar spray paint. Turned out really nice. Mounted the Rotopax mount to it.
Got a couple bed rail nuts on eBay and stainless Allen nuts and washers at the hardware store. Mounted it to the bed rail. I didn't want it to rattle around, so I got 2 round gun mount magnets on Amazon. Popped the rubber covers off, tapered the holes a bit. Removed 2 of the storage compartment screws and replaced them with new metric screws with tapered heads from the hardware store. Put the rubber covers back on and screwed them back into the storage compartment. Now my steel back plate holds strong and doesn't rattle around. If I need to access my storage compartment, I can just lift it up out of the way. Here's a video of its operation from my Instagram.
