I am a first time Tacoma owner in search of a tailgate liner. I have extensively searched the internet but find only bedliners for my 2006 Tacoma. Has anyone found where to buy a tailgate liner? I don't want a tailgate mat which is more like a carpet. Thanks for any help you can offer.

What kind of "liner" are you talking about- a metal smooth piece to strengthen it or something like a piece of wood or plastic to go on it? I cut a piece of HDPE (like plastic cutting board) and screwed it to mine because I hated the way it felt on my knees when I'd climb in the back and because I wanted a flat surface to cook and do other tasks on.

I'm looking for the plastic liner that you see on most Tacoma trucks.

Huh? The tailgate comes from the factory with a cover screwed on it that is the same material as the bed and there's a cap over the top edge. Are you missing the factory piece(s)? I'd hit up a junk yard if that's what you're looking for. Order new plastic inserts for the metal tailgate since they get lose after taking the screws out a couple of times.

You referring to the stock Tailgate cover? Or something different that goes over or replaces it?

I'm looking for the stock tailgate cover. That will fit my needs.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was searching for but couldn't find. Is there a good place to buy the protective cap that is attached to the top of the tailgate? I found many sellers but they are charging the same or more than the full tailgate cover.

What happened to yours? Are the pieces completely missing? Are all the screws missing too? What about the white plastic pieces that the screws screw into?

When I bought my Tacoma the original owner had to replace the tailgate because it was stolen. He used one from one of his work trucks so it is pretty beat up and has platter and paint on it. I haven't taken it apart to see if all of the parts are there... but I assume they are.

If you order the parts, go ahead and order the plastic inserts (90189-06010), they get loose and don't grip the screws well after removing them a time or two.

Good to know. Thanks... I will be sure to order the inserts.
