I'll be getting my Snugtop Rebel soon which means I'm looking to finish getting my gear together for camping. I've been passively looking at mattresses to go in my long bed but I haven't read a ton of feedback.

I've had bad experiences with air mattresses popping on me before so the airbedz being so expensive makes me nervous. Was thinking about doing some kind of foam mattress setup but I really just don't know.

What opinions do you guys have on setting up your bed toppers for camping? Is airbedz legit? Is there a better way?

I use a 2” memory foam mattress topper. It’s not great sleeping but its adequate. Storage is an issue. It doesn’t stow as small as an air mattress.

My truck bed is covered in pading full time. The first layer is 1/2 inch Harbor Freight interlocking foam tiles that I cut to fit the shape of the bed, the second layer is 1/2 inch gym mats. I also have an indoor/outdoor carpet over the two layers of foam. So over an inch of total pading. That keeps things from sliding around in the bed and it's a good surface to toss cargo on an not worry about damage. Also my dogs like it and it's not too bad to sleep on. I'm pretty comfortable sleeping with just that and my sleeping bag.

My wife uses an additional foam pad when she camps with me. I don't like the size/space requirements for those bed air mattresses so I've never considered one. I think if i ever decide i need more pading to sleep, a strip of memory foam might be my next step.

    Just some stuff...
I have one of the older Truckbedz air matresses. Never had a problem. I remember seeing one of their ads where they show a couple of kids being pulled around on it behind a truck and it was fine. It definitely is pretty tough.

Very happy and I have not been kind to mine! He does do custom sizing as well. Not the cheapest option, but you get what you paid for

I have an Airbedz mattress. It works great. I am sure there are better ones out there, but it's probably the best air mattress that I've used so far. Stayed firm for 3 nights, before having to add a little bit more air to make it to my liking. I like it firm. The other air mattresses that I've tried would lose air after one night. And it was more than what was lost in the 3 days with the Airbedz.

I noticed there's a few different kinds of Airbedz. Do you happen to know the differences between them and which one you'd recommend?

I've done both foam and air mattresses, sometimes both. I used a folding foam futon mattress from Costco for awhile, then a Therma A Rest air matress and now just use a air camping mattress I paid $29 from Costco about 10 yrs ago. I need storage room so the backpacking/camping air mattresses works for me.

This is the one that I have. https://truckairbedz.com/PPI-PV203C

My daughters bought it for me last Christmas through Amazon. They gave me the "Frequently Bought Together" package you see when you scroll down: tent, mattress, and fan/light.

The pump that came with it is surprisingly good. It inflated the mattress a lot faster than I thought it would.

No affiliation, but this shop is great! I have a custom foam mattress for a reading nook and cushions for bay window seats. They did a camping mattress for my son and he's used it for 3 years.

    https://foamforyou.com/

It's custom work, so a little pricey. But you can cover it with any material and stack different foam a specific uses. I live local, but they ship anywhere.

I have this & used it in the bed camping. It sucked for that. I ended up laying 2 sleeping bags & 1 comforter to make it soft enough.
When I use that pad w/my Teton XL cot, it's very comfortable.

I have the blue airbedz and it’s very comfortable just spent 4 nights on it. Inflates and deflates with a built in pump.

I got the same one and used it for the first time on Friday. Felt like it lost air in the middle of the night and ended up hitting it with more air. Have you seen that with yours?
