I just spent a weekend towing a 2800 lb (dry weight) camper all over western Iowa. The good: it got the job done and looked cool doing it.

The bad: it is damn hilly in western Iowa, and it was a lot of work, I won’t lie. I would have even wished I had gotten the auto except for the fact that so many people say it sucks when towing because of hunting for gears.

It’s tough going up a long hill that seems to get steeper as you go up, when you start out in 5th with a good head of steam, then have to downshift to 4th. If you lose momentum, you might even have to downshift to 3rd.

Oh, and I got about 10 mpg.

That said, for the amount of towing I do I think it will work. If I had to tow anything bigger on a regular basis, I would definitely go with a full-size truck, where you just point it, step on the pedal, and go.

True, they seem to last forever.
