    Afternoon all:

All true Gary, but I think that's only the tip of the iceberg. Take a look around, the litter, the vandalism, the language, the massive amount of shoplifting, road rage incidents, law enforcment shootings, leaving a mess in public bathrooms, etc. etc., just seems like an awful lot of people just don't respect anything anymore.
I was always under the impression that it was the parents responsibility to teach right from wrong for the most part, usually accomplished through discipline, oh, wait, that makes you bad parents in todays world!

You are absolutely 100% correct Carl.

Another correlation is the absence of a father figure in many single parent homes, which also translates to less discipline.

I remember reading about a village in Africa in which all of the old male elephants had been killed by poachers for the ivory. The remaining young males started growing up to be trouble makers without the older males providing guidance and discipline. The young males would raid gardens and tear down fences and just generally make a nuisance of themselves to the point of becoming dangerous.

Some of the older members of the tribe remembered that the problem with these young rogue elephants only surfaced after the old patriarch elephants were gone.

The game managers relocated some old bull elephants to the trouble area and they soon had the young bulls under control and the vandalism problem went away.

Perhaps there is a lesson for humans in our current PC society.

Hello all! Been a while since last posting anything here.Wife was at her sisters for a while,my son and l were left in charge (that’s never a good idea:)) to stain a fence, get the garden planted and growing plus other projects for me.Kind of smoothing out now.Able to go to the lake a few times,so back to normality!

The whole mass shooting thing makes you wonder if you should even step outside the door. But life must go on and l won’t be afraid!

Hope all of you are well and where’s my beer cooler

Have any private citizens with carry permits stopped one of these events?

Not sure of your laws there.
I did mine with a lock out switch , 7500 watt man start, wiring and boxes, and electrician came to about 700-800. Can run all house systems but wouldn’t run range. No more extension cords...

We do just fine without power.
Battery backups for the short term. Phone, modem, and PCs.
Lots of large bottles of water for the long term. A creek behind the cabin for water for longer term.
We heat with wood and cook with propane.
Lanterns and stoves with stored fuel.
So far, we have not had to deal with the refrigerator. A few days it is fine. I keep water containers in the freezer.
I do have a small gasoline generator I start every month. Have not had to use it yet.

    The phone works without power.
The hard part is the lack of internet and TV. Withdrawal symptoms start quickly. :)

    Morning all:

Yes, it has happened, but very little coverage as ONF stated.

I was wondering: in Texas you would think that people would have been carrying in that store, and possibly would have tried to confront the gunman, it was a gun free zone!

Why would you think they carry in a gun free zone?

My neighbor a few acres away just put in a Generac generator, seems one recent discussion somewhere said they didn't sell one the smaller size he installed. Plumbed for propane, auto start and kill. Wasn't that much money. Fancy thing, could be linked to a puter or phone to control.

I didn't know that it was a gun free zone until it was mentioned on the news. Without knowing that, you would assume that in Texas there would be multiple armed people in that store, heck, even here in Pa you would be surprised at the number of people who are armed.
We hang around a convenience store at night where several of the guys open carry, other stores around there have been robbed, that one hasn't, I doubt if that is just a coincidence.

Repo pup thinks he can scare off many deer. This one doe has been hanging around that I see every so often. Well he thought today he could tackle her again. Twice. She whaled on him twice, last time had him on the ground, he was crying. He still wanted to go after her again. She will trot up to within 50' of me, I have to wave my arms, think she is more concerned with Repo.

Several years ago an off duty female police officer was attending church in Texas.

A shooter entered the sanctuary and she pulled her concealed carry handgun and eliminated the threat.

Perhaps there are other instances but this one came to mind.

That would be what I thought. I actually said that before you posted.
I thought you miswrote 'gun free zone'. Now I see that you stated that it is a gun free zone.

:pccoffee:  from Cape Cod. Cool house this year, just enough room inside to cook and sleep but a giant yard with horseshoes, shuffleboard, bocce ball(!) and a huge fire pit! Plus enough room left over to set up bean bags. Turns out I'm not half bad at that last one; streaky, but I did put two in a row through the hole one time.
