I just got my 1st Tacoma 2 months ago I think it is The Bomb. Of course I have MT so getting to the max power range is easier than with an auto trans and thus all of the wimpy performance complaints are way less applicable to the MT.

I also like the non truck like ride.

    obviously the best possible answer.

I don't think I'll have any major issues with mine other than things that could potentially have a life span (belts, alternators, batteries, suspension components) in the 8 years of extended warranty I have or however long I keep it after that.. I may change the head unit though lol. I don't miss routine maintenance, and Tacomas have outstanding reputation as being reliable. Even if I wasn't going to school for auto tech I'm still confident I would be fine. It's not a POS just because it's a new generation - things haven't suddenly changed in Toyota's books.. They're a huge corporation, they've always done things as cheap as they can to keep the highest dollar like any other corporation.

You said it best man! I think some people just want something to complain about. Every manufacturer has recalls. Every manufacturer has lemons.

If your automatic transmission is starting to slip, and you’re around 100,000 miles — have you changed the fluid and filter? Can make a huge difference

yeah just look at the recall RAM had a few years back, 500k vehicles for sure at danger (+ more in the coming weeks) for setting on fire under load. Actually found that article 2 days after my aunt and I were talking about how every time she drives down a certain mountain pass she always sees a big truck on fire, and it's always a Dodge.

I expect mine will go well past 200k miles, but I won't own it that long. I maintain it like I will though.

Well i bought my jeep at about 178k miles and i'm at about 225k now. It turns out i am leaking transmission fluid very slowly, i haven't gotten it fixed yet. I have just been checking my transmission fluid levels every now and then and topping it off. It's amazing how much of a difference you can feel by just having the correct amount of fluid.

Guy down the road has 2 V6 ACLB 4X4 for his pest control business. Beds are always full of gear and/or he’s towing a small enclosed trailer. They’re both nearing 200k (192k and 183k last time I spoke with him). He’s done nothing but maintenance by the book and has had zero issues. Strictly uses Walmart Supertech Synthetic oil, because it’s the cheapest 0w-20 he can find. That should say enough right there. Nearly 400k miles between 2 trucks with no troubles, while hauling/towing daily.

Tell him to buy Mobil 1 from now on as they have $12 rebates on the 5Q jugs all the time, you can do your own oil change for under $20.

I’d agree, but I think he puts miles on it so quickly, that his mileage would overtake the rebate windows. And his business happens to be around the corner from a Wally World. The oil itself is actually good stuff. Rebranded warren Synthetic oil that’s perfectly fine for his 7k intervals.

Contrary to popular belief leaking is good. My rear axle seals leak, transmission and transfer case leak, small rear main leak. Power steering definitely leaks.
It's when the leaks stop I start to worry

Meh, I'm not worried about how long it will last, I give it 3 years and my wife will want something else. Someone will benefit from a well maintained 3yr old Tacoma with under 50k miles on it when that time comes.

Well I was looking at 3.5 V6's I really wanted a TRD off road and the six speed manual but I just got a great deal on a wrecked 2.7 five speed, so I guess I won't have to worry about the longevity of the 3.5 for a few years. After fixing it I should be able to put a locker and lower gears in it and still come out WAY ahead of what I could get a 3.5 for.
