Have any of y'all studied up on this? One of my best friends was on this CH-47. Today makes the 8 year anniversary & I'm still as pissed today as I was Aug. 6, 2011.
Such a crock of shit how this all went down & afterwards w/the bullshit congressional hearing.

yea, something stinks. Flight recorders 'washed away' in a flash flood. In afghanistan?? All that aside, I hope you can eventually get some kind of closure.

It is shady indeed, and I am sorry for your loss. There seems to be no closure when we lose our friends in this manner.

Sorry to hear about your friend man. The sad reality is things go to shit in combat A LOT, and sometimes good people die.

You have to realize that a lot of these bad dudes are legit warriors and were downing soviet helicopters long before we got there, and they aren't just some angsty hill people. (some of them anyway). Especially the ones attached to senior leadership. The fact there were decoy chinooks tells you they were already thinking of this eventuality.

Semi-related: One of my friends was a AFSOC sensor operator and one night they were watching over a JSOC element on patrol. Couple hajis had dug an undercut fighting position to hide from thermals and managed to ambush the team. Sadly, a few didn't make it out.

My point is: We overlook gamesmanship theory too often and forget the enemy gets a vote too. Sometimes it's skills, sometimes it's plain ol dumb luck.

Based on the amount of guesses, rumors and hearsay relating to what time you may or may not secure for the day on a Friday, I can only imagine the amount of miscommunication fuckery involved in a major incident like this.
