    I'm down! My next open weekend is Labor Day Weekend, but something later in September or October could work, as well.

    This should definitely be a thing we do.

    I found my way around Dupont the last time I was out there, but a tour of Pisgah is definitely something I'm down for. Hell, just having someone to ride with at either location would be most excellent.

    I'm not into huge drops and ultra-black diamond death runs, though, so some of you may need to dial it back if we hang out. :D

    The frame is gonna be fine. The fork and wheels would give out first on big hits.

    If you're happy as is, don't change a thing. But demo a few different full suspensions and take them in the loops you normally ride. See if you like it. You don't know what you don't know.

    OK then, here's a tentative list for Western NC Tacos and Bikes, Episode 1, Fall 2019 (exact dates TBD, exact location TBD):
    @honda50r
    @trekinit
    @NC TACO 4X4
    @paleh0rse
    @backcountryj

    Warrior Creek, Dupont, and Pisgah are all possible locations.

    Logistics req's: Camping spots, dates, routes...and a better name for the event?

    I'll start gathering the hookers and blow now...

    Sadly, I'm not going to NC for work this fall like I did last year, or I would tag along.

    Normally I can weasel my way in to a trip to Charlotte, but we are on travel restriction right now. :(

    Right on. I'll make a separate thread for it in the southeast forum and just link it here.

    That's what I'm afraid of! If I don't ride a full suspension, I won't buy one! :spending: If I did want to beef up the Roscoe to make it tougher/lighter..any suggestions?

    I picked up a used Cannondale on Sunday. Its only a couple months old and hasn't even been in for its 90 day checkup at the local bike shop. Its an entry level bike but should be all I need.

    Hell yeah, I'm game. @honda50r and I can pick out some of our favorite routes and plan the campsite around that. Plenty of dispersed camping available so that shouldn't be a problem.

    I'm reading that you like steep, fast descents. true? if so...

    the first place is wheels, wheels, wheels. I ride carbon wheels, they are crazy light and super tough (but carbon doesn't bend like metal, it just breaks). i immediately offset that weight by slapping on some tough, large tires - Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR II 2.5/2.4. arguably the best all around tires on the market ( i give props to WTB's Vigilante 2.5/2.6 as well). Definitely go TUBELESS.

    next, your fork. Go for a big juicy fox factory 36 with kashima, 160mm travel. or a pike - 150mm travel. this will add some weight, but be super stable going down and soaking up the big hits. YOU STILL NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LAND YOUR REAR SOFTLY, or you'll be burping air out your rear tire and damaging/breaking your rear wheel.

    the rest goes, thomson seat post and stem, chris king headset, carbon bars, xtr brakes, rear derailleur, and if your not hucking big airs in the bike par, ride clipless. flats are fun but you should learn how to ride clipped in. some shimano SPD pedals and 5.10 kestrels or equivalent is a good starting point for that.

    so all this adds up $$$... you might just do the math and realize that the full squish you are about to demo is less chedda and worth the upgrade.

    :D

    Just keep riding the roscoe as is. You said you're having fun. That's the whole point right?! You'll get to know the bike and eventually have a good idea of what you will need to replace in the long run.

    You should try to learn riding clipped in though. It's a world of a difference in the endurance attribute.

    A big reason the wanderlust rack, and softtopper stays in the forefront....
    2 quick release bars(extruded aluminum) and you can do anything with the top.....

    But, since I already have my bed rack... it just keeps working, until it doesnt
