A few weeks back, my fuse box melted...long story. I got a salvage fuse box and wiring harness from an A/T. Mine is an M/T. I managed to get the wiring for the clutch start and parking break wired up, but cannot get the ABS and Skid Control lights to turn off in the dash. I have a manual for ‘05+ with all the wiring diagrams and identified one wire from the skid control ECU that might be at conflict between the M/T and the A/T harness, so when I went to trace it, I discovered that the wiring at the skid control ECU does not match the diagrams. I bought a 2 day subscription to TIS and could not get TIS to work in any way. Does anyone know if Toyota updated the wiring between ‘05 and ‘10? There was one junction box on the driver side where the clutch start switch wires up that didn’t match the diagrams, but I managed to disassemble it and map out where everything went on the inside and figured out where to wire the clutch switch, but I’m having a bit of a mental block on figuring out the skid control ECU on my own. Pressing the VSC off button does turn the VSC off light on and off, but there is another VSC light that is on all the time. I tried resetting the ABS codes via jumping pins on the OBDII port in hopes that whatever originally tripped the system had been fixed, but the light blinks then goes back to being on all the time.

So the question is, does anyone know why my wiring at the skid control ECU doesn’t match the ‘05 manual, do you know where I can get the updated wiring diagrams, do you know why I couldn’t get TIS to work, and better yet, does anyone know if there is a difference between the M/T and A/T wiring harnesses that would give me the ABD and VSC lights other than the clutch switch and parking break switch?

If you’re curious, the skid control ECU changed on the second gens, I think around 2009. The same number and color wires go into the fuse box at the plug that was melted, but they go to different pins.

I was curious! Thanks for posting this information.

I have wondered how much difference there is between auto and manual wiring harnesses, and what all would be involved in switching my manual to an auto since reading about @JustDSM being able to run his manual truck with an auto ECU.

The replacement harness I used came from an A/T and went into my manual. For the portion that I used there was almost no difference. It was missing the clutch switch that tells the ECU it’s clutched and allows you to start the truck. Initially I simply pressed the “clutch start cancel” button and it allowed me to start the truck. A few days later I simply pulled the switch from the M/T harness and added it to the A/T harness. I vaguely remember it being somehow related to the park position sensor on the A/T, so I think it was the same color wire, but went to a different pin on the ECU. I just pulled the pin, moved it over, and was good to go. There was another sensor that had a different length wire and plugged into a different sensor that had to do with the speedometer, but IIRC it used the same plug, and the same color and pin on the ECU. I may have some details wrong. It’s been a while.

So far everything works fine except the ABS/VSC/TRAC system. That has nothing to do with A/T vs M/T. It’s because before TRAC the ABS controller was different. Whatever year TRAC came out they called it the skid control ECU(I think). It had all the same wire colors as the wiring diagram I used, but they actually go different places. One of these days when I have time I’ll have to get a short term subscription to the online FSM and get the correct wiring diagram, and move the pins to their correct positions, and I’m confident that I’ll get all of that back. I actually subscribed once and that’s how I found out that the wiring was different, but some stuff came up unexpectedly and I didn’t get it done before the subscription expired. I should have taken pictures of the diagrams!
