just picked up a 2008 V6 and noticed that the cats don’t have any heat shields. The seller said he just replaced one that had failed, so that’s why I looked. Did the mechanic fail to put the heat shields back on, or did the V6 not have any heat shields over the cats? Thanks!

Pretty sure there's only a heat shield on one side. Think it's drivers side. Mine fell off and I never replaced it. There's also the tin foily "heat shield" things that are actually called insulators or something like that ON TOP of the cats attached to the underside of the trucks body. Mine also fell off over the driver's side cat and never replaced that either. No issues

I actually do have one heat shield. I think it’s on the driver’s side. Will check later.

Correct all - the drivers side under the drivers seat or rear most one on that side has one. Rest have the heat shields mounted on body with the studs/nuts that rattle as the holes get too big and you need to add washers. Dealer does have that drivers side one and it protects the front driveshaft u-joints and xfer output from cat heat. I had to use a large hose clamp to hold mine on to exhaust pipe and 2 new bolts on other end - found just before it was going to drop off and disappear on the road.
