I have an 03 Tacoma 3.4l v6 and I can be driving down the road or taking off from a light and my rpms drop 200-500 at a time and will not go if I hit the gas. I have to let off and it will go back to normal or sometimes it repeats the cycle 4-5 more times. Sometimes it’ll do it once or twice or 10-12 times while I’m driving. Seems like if it sits for a few days without driving it, it’s worse than usual. I had a evap code so I thought that was the problem but I have reading and heard from people that the evap won’t change the way it drives. Have no other codes showing. Any help would be appreciated.

How long since plugs and wires have been replaced?

Sounds like similar symptoms I was experiencing. Possibly fuel pump weak and about to go. My fuel pump took a crap in a very similar manner and popped a lean code.

Probably been 3-4 years since a tube up. Seen another guy on here had a similar issues and he had water dripping out his water pump peep hole and was causing corrosion on his crankshaft sensor. Cleaned it up and fixed it. Going to check that this evening.

Old plugs and wires can cause a severe misfire condition with these engines that will show up as difficulty accelerating under a load. If it's been 3-4 years, I'd definitely change them out.

Crankshaft sensor looked clean. Didn’t have time for tune up yet which I may be wrong but if I had a misfire I would think it would throw a code. Did put a fuel filter on and it seemed to help somewhat. Still does it but not as dramatic I guess. Which it has only been one day. Also heard from a Toyota guy that he thinks if the fuel pump was going bad it would just go. Said since it’s starting he does seem to think that’s the issue but its something mechanical. Still haven’t fixed the evap leak but have cut the code off. I just wonder if the evap has something to do with it?
