I'm thinking about selling the camper shell and switching to a RTT on a bed rack. Any thoughts?

I feel like it would give me more usability of the bed at times when needed and more storage options for attachment points. We like to camp a lot and mostly sleep in the truck.

Has anyone done both and have an opinion on sleeping in the bed with a camper shell vs a RTT? We love sleeping in the camper shell, but like I said, I'm wondering if the rack with a RTT would be more functional for everyday life.

Yeah, I've thought about putting one on the camper shell. I tried to contact Snugtop about the weight limit on it, but no one emailed back. I'd be nervous it would just be too much on the hitop camper shell.

I like my bed rack more. Lower center of gravity too

Thanks for the input. That's what I'm thinking, it will be too high if I put a RTT on the hi topper.

The list is long but distinguished
I went rack/rtt because in theory I could remove the rack as a unit easily and heavy stuff could remain in the bed while we are camping. Sleeping in the bed for the wife and I was a bit of a non starter as my truck is a short bed. I added bed stiffeners just be on the safe side.

Thanks for the input! That's a nice setup, pretty much exactly what I'm thinking of switching to.
