    Good morning,

Anyone here have experience with aftermarket CV boots? If so, what’s a good brand?

Long story short, I tore my driver side CV boot ( again) yesterday. This is my second time now tearing my boots within one year. I’m more annoyed with cleaning all the grease up all over again.

Please, I don’t need a lecture on proper cv angles, why I don’t lift my truck story, etc...

My truck is lifted 2.5 inches (kings) and lowered my coils when my boots blew the first time. But they blew again yesterday driving on the freeway?! So I’m thinking maybe going the aftermarket route will be better? Or last longer?

What are you guys opinion? Thank you in advance.

CVJ makes boots out of silicone designed to withstand higher angles

I had issues with boots blowing too with my Kings (1st gen though), lowering to about 2.25" was what finally got them to stop rubbing apart for me

I understand that with lifted trucks cv boots will cause to rub more and potentially blow but twice in one year? It’s pretty ridiculous. More annoyed than anything.

I’ll look into those CVJ boots. Thank you sir!

Yup I went through 3 in one year, when the boot fins are touching while the truck is on flat ground it means they're constantly rubbing each other since the CVs are always spinning (even in 2wd). That'll cause them to tear pretty quickly

Could just loosen the clamp, slide the boot out and re-tighten.

I debated doing the boot slide mod but in the end I figured it best to just lower them some, the high angles on the axles were making them click in 4wd and I didn't want to risk breaking them on the trail just to have another .5" of lift. They seem to be happy at 2.25" and it guarantees I won't have to deal with torn boots and less likely to bust CVs at full droop/lock on the trail

Would you recommend these anyway for my truck as a way to ensure I don't go through it? I mean the complete assemblies?

I have CVJ boots on my first gen and have been very happy with them. Unfortunately they only make boots for the transfer case side of the axles and not the hub side.

    Too few to list.
    2.5" on a 3rd Gen translates to 3.5" on a 2nd Gen?

I remember when I was on 2.5" lift, the driver's side inner boot was 1mm away from touching as previous to that at 2.75", the boot fins was constantly touching and made a groove on the CV boot and would have eventually torn.

I wouldn't worry about it unless your fins are rubbing at ride height...general rule of thumb that I've heard is that if you can slide a piece of paper between the boot fins then you should be okay. If they are rubbing/touching though then the higher angle boots might be the way to go if you don't want to lower your lift. The boot slide mod is another option, haven't done it myself but you basically just unclamp the boot and slide it over a bit, then reclamp. So the fins are more spread apart.

There's a groove on the axle where the clamp normally fits into so I think you have to slide it past that and make sure it's tight so it doesn't slip around or let grease out. There's one or two big threads on that mod here on the forum

My boots have torn twice now! In like 2 months. After this warranty job from YOTA I’m getting better boots

Is this more the inner boot or outer boot?
