My apologies if this has been covered, I didn't get any hits with the search bar.

What do the majority of you guys use for communicating while offroad?

I'm trying to decide on which method to go with and figure I might be out wheeling with you guys more often than not. I am leaning CB.

I voted hamm but I think hamm and CB are a must the more you get into off-roading and the deeper you get into the woods

I have both. I have a CB and a dual band 2m/70cm. Most people I've known have had CB, so a CB is needed for communication. When your talking ham radio it becomes a licensing thing. Ham radio will get you more range based on frequencies and conditions but if no one in your group has ham then you won't be able to talk on ham frequencies. As far as emergency communications go satellite is the way to go w something like a Garmin In-Reach.

Depends on who you ride with mostly. I have a cb and dual band ham. Trying to get motivated for the general license test.
CB is free to use on the airways.
GMRS is an annual fee of $10? I don’t have!
HAM need to study and pass a cheap exam.

I hear a lot of people run GMRS in the Midwest. May be on a repeater? But good coverage there, so I have read.

HAM...every Tacoma group I've wheeled with out here uses HAM. Know a few guys that use CB but also have a handheld HAM radio.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
It really depends on who you're going with. Some of the groups I've been with have used CB some have used ham. Not sure if you're going to be on private lands, such as the Campbell Global, Hancock, or Weyerhaeuser, but they all run CB's to call out mile markers.

HAM all day. Offers way more capability than anything else I have come across. Toss in an Inreach for SOS functions and call it a day.

Ham. I have a CB handheld with a mag antenna that I'll setup for active logging roads, but aside from that I haven't used CB in over 20 years.
